Female vocal songs where women with low voices can shine
In Japan, where a high voice is often considered “good,” the reason originally lies in the country’s agrarian roots.
To communicate by voice with farmers working at a distance, a higher, more intelligible pitch was more convenient; thus, in Japan and other agrarian Asian societies, people with higher voices have traditionally been preferred.
However, when it comes to singing, higher is not always better!
In fact, lower voices have overwhelming advantages in overtones and resonance.
So this time, we’ve picked out songs that bring out the maximum charm of women with lower voices!
Of course, we also selected them with karaoke appeal in mind, so if you’re a woman with a drinking party or group date coming up, this is a must-see.

Female vocal songs where low-voiced women can shine (121–130)
MermaidYuka

Singer-songwriter Yuka, who has gained popularity for her refined musical sensibilities inspired by Western music.
She has many catchy songs, but her artistry has really sharpened lately.
Her new track “Mermaid” is a piece I particularly recommend for women with lower voices.
Although it’s sung in mixed voice, it doesn’t require a belted mix, so even women with low voices may find it surprisingly singable.
The range is also narrow, so if mixed voice is challenging for you, try boldly lowering the key.
pure whiteFuji Kaze

Fujii Kaze’s new song “Mashiro.” Unlike most of his works, this track features little R&B influence and comes together with an overall dream-pop feel.
Notably, its vocal range is quite narrow—not just small, but shaped into a gently flowing vocal line throughout—making it very easy to sing.
For some women with lower voices, the range may be narrow enough to sing without changing the key, so consider adding it to your repertoire.
The wind is callingGLIM SPANKY

This is a digital-only single by the Japanese duo Glim Spanky, released on June 16, 2021.
It appears to have been produced as the theme song for the 30th anniversary of abn Nagano Asahi Broadcasting.
It’s a very Glim Spanky-style, simple mid-tempo rock song, and in that sense, I think it’s relatively easy to sing if you pick it for karaoke.
That said, while I’m recommending it as a song for women who aren’t confident with high notes, I should mention that Remi Matsuo’s vocals in the chorus are impressively powerful in chest voice at a fairly high range—so if possible, I’d love for everyone to give that part a real try.
If you practice producing your voice as if you’re placing it against your upper palate and avoid squeezing your throat as much as possible, even those who struggle with high notes will surely be able to sing it!
AmbivalentUru

This is Uru’s ninth digital-only single overall, released in January 2024.
It was chosen as the opening theme for the second cour of the anime The Apothecary Diaries.
The production lets you fully enjoy Uru’s soft yet richly resonant vocals over a lively up-tempo groove.
Recreating that depth in karaoke is almost like a special privilege for women who are strong in the lower register, isn’t it? If your voice gets rough, it can spoil the feel of the original, so try to sing with as soft a touch as possible.
For the closing phrases at the end of each chorus, try placing the sound toward your lower jaw as you sing—you’ll likely get a deeper, better-sounding low tone.
Give it a try!
Wanted (Most Wanted / Wanted Person / Wanted Poster)pinku redii

This was the fifth single by Pink Lady, a popular idol duo from the Showa era, released in May 1977.
It was a massive hit at the time, boasting sales of over a million copies.
Among the two members of Pink Lady, Kei (Keiko Masuda) has a particularly attractive vocal quality, with a rich low register and a pleasantly husky tone—in a good way—which makes the song especially suitable for women who are strong in the lower range.
The melody is also very simple and easy to sing compared to modern songs, so if possible, try singing it as a pair with someone who, like Mie (MIE), has a bright, shining high range.
You might enjoy it even more if you imitate the choreography while you sing!
