The Birthday – I Want to Hold You
I want to hug you.The Birthday

The Birthday is a band with an impressive sound that mixes psychobilly and garage.

They’ve been active for a long time, but since the 2020s they’ve had a resurgence and have started gaining support from younger listeners.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is Dakishimetai (“I Want to Hold You”).

It’s a garage-style track, with a rough vocal line throughout.

That roughness is part of its charm, but it also makes it easier to cover without being too precise.

For that reason, it’s a very singable song for men.

cherry blossomKetsumeishi

It’s a slightly bittersweet number released by Ketsumeishi in 2005, about remembering a former lover while looking at cherry blossoms.

The rap parts might take some practice, but the chorus is easy to sing without having to belt it out, so it’s recommended.

It’s a classic that’s relatively easy to sing even within hip-hop.

Runnerbakufū suranpu

Bakufu Slump - Runner (High Quality)
Runnerbakufū suranpu

It’s fair to say this is a signature song by Bakufu Slump, a rock band active in the ’80s and ’90s.

It remains very popular today, for example as a sports anthem.

Although the track has a fast pace, there are surprisingly few parts that require hitting high notes.

Everything becomes my strength!kuzu

"Kuzu" - "Everything will become my strength!" with lyrics (in the description)
Everything becomes my strength!kuzu

This is a vocal duo formed by Hiroyuki Miyasako of Ameagari Kesshitai and Tomomitsu Yamaguchi—then of DonDokoDon—on the comedy show ‘One-Night R&R,’ which has produced numerous artists.

With minimal pitch variation and a familiar melodic line, it’s an easy song to sing even at karaoke.

damnFuji Kaze

Fujii Kaze – damn(Official Video)
damnFuji Kaze

This is Fujii Kaze’s 11th digital single, released in September 2022.

Because Fujii Kaze’s singing style and phrasing are a bit distinctive, some people might think it seems difficult, but the vocal melody doesn’t cover a very wide range, so once you try singing it, I think many people will find it quite easy! Just be careful not to let the slightly swung beat become flat as you sing.

Listen closely to the drums in the backing track and make sure to lock in the snare accents on beats two and four as you sing.

THE YELLOW MONKEY is a band loved by rock fans across generations.

It’s rare for a band to stay at the forefront for so many years, so even younger listeners are likely familiar with them.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is Wana (“Trap”).

The vocal line that dips slightly into a downer mood in the chorus—a hallmark of theirs—is present here as well.

Because of that, even those who struggle with belting out the chorus should be able to sing it comfortably.

Spot the differenceSuda Masaki

Masaki Suda 'Machigai Sagashi' (Spot the Difference)
Spot the differenceSuda Masaki

Masaki Suda’s digital-only single, released in May 2019.

It was used as the theme song for Fuji TV’s Tuesday 9 PM drama “Perfect World.” Incidentally, Kenshi Yonezu wrote, composed, and produced the track, and later released his own self-cover version as well.

The song has a slightly wistful atmosphere that’s beautifully crafted.

In the track, Suda delivers a very resonant vocal performance, so some listeners might feel at first listen that “this sounds hard to sing!” However, if you isolate the vocal melody, you’ll find it’s actually quite simple, making it a song you can enjoy by casually humming along.

Try setting aside any preconceptions and give it a shot.
