Let’s play frisbee

Here’s a game using a frisbee.
Stand empty plastic bottles on the floor, and have the seniors throw a frisbee to knock them down.
Frisbees had a bit of a boom in Japan from the 1970s to the early 1980s, so some seniors may have played with them back then.
The game might also bring back fond memories.
Forming teams and competing for points can make it more exciting, but of course, it’s plenty of fun to play solo as well.
Tug-of-war with a newspaper using your feet

Tug-of-war is one of the most exciting events at a sports day, isn’t it? It brings everyone together to cheer as a team and deepens communication.
This time’s “newspaper tug-of-war with your feet” can be done while seated, making it an easy activity for older adults of all abilities to join.
To keep it safe, be sure to sit firmly in a chair and hold onto the handrail while participating! The key to winning is to skillfully use your feet to pull the newspaper toward you.

Rolling beach ball

It’s a game where you skillfully control a string connected to the chair opposite you to move a beach ball resting on it.
Your ability to judge how moving the string in your hands affects the ball’s motion is put to the test.
You move the ball by changing angles and widening the span, while simultaneously being careful not to let the string slack—this dual task helps stimulate the brain.
The longer the string, the harder it is to control, so once you get used to it, we recommend gradually trying longer setups.
Recreation using a whiteboard and rubber balls

It’s a recreation activity where you change the angle of a whiteboard to make it like a platform and roll balls across it.
Since you throw the ball onto the board while seated, there are moments when the ball disappears from your line of sight, which adds to the difficulty.
You need to anticipate how the ball will roll and, if you feel it will come your way, get into a catching posture—it’s a test of concentration.
If you increase the number of balls, they may collide on the board and change trajectories, which strengthens concentration even more.

“From the Green Village” is a song created to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Nanto City’s merger, and let’s move our bodies along with this song.
Despite its slow tempo, the uplifting lyrics of “From the Green Village” bring a calm, peaceful feeling.
It’s a song that resonates with older adults as well.
The rhythm is just right for seniors to move their bodies to, so please give it a try.
A game where you take balloons out of a basket

Let’s work together as a team! Here’s a game idea where you take balloons out of a basket.
Summer often brings to mind uchiwa fans, right? This time, let’s try a unique game that uses uchiwa to lift balloons out of a basket.
You’ll need a stand or table, a deep basket, balloons, and one uchiwa per participant.
Place the basket filled with balloons on the table, and have participants sit around it.
When the signal is given, everyone chants together, “Wasshoi, wasshoi,” while fanning with their uchiwa to get the balloons out of the basket.
It could be even more fun to split into two teams and compete against each other!
Slow aerobics with Momotaro

Many older adults are likely familiar with the folktale Momotaro.
There’s also a children’s song that tells the story of Momotaro, isn’t there? Let’s try moving our bodies to that song.
This is called slow aerobics, where you move gently in time with the music.
You can do the exercises standing, but they can also be done while seated.
It’s an easy routine for older adults who find standing difficult.
Through gentle, low-strain movements, it may also help you lead a more vibrant, fulfilling daily life.
