Even a tipsy old guy can play it! The basics of piano chords
Do you know the piano “chord playing” method?
We often hear about “chords” in guitar playing, but they’re not the exclusive domain of the guitar.
Piano chord playing is a method I recommend even for beginners.
For adults with a certain level of comprehension—setting aside very young children or elementary schoolers—it enables you to play the piano without sheet music.
What is code?
In this video, to test whether literally any adult can play the piano using chords, I tried teaching chord-based piano playing to a slightly tipsy man with no prior piano experience.
Chord in Japanese is “コード(和音)” or simply “コード.”chordIt means that.
By the way, a “chord” refers to two or more tones of different pitch (with octaves considered the same).
However, when used in contexts like a pianist or guitarist saying they “play with chords,” it almost always refers to chord symbols (chord names).
The term “chord name,” taken literally, means “the name of a harmony.”
It’s a bit sudden, but among the chord progressions that everyone has heard, there’s one calledDo-Mi-SoThere is a triad called “).
Actually, this"Do-Mi-So" corresponds to "C".It has this codename, and even without writing sheet music, you can convey chords with a single alphabet letter.
alsoIf it's 'La-Do-Mi-So', then it's 'Am7 (A minor seventh)'.For example,If it's 'Faradomi', then 'FM7 (F major seventh)'.They are named in this way, and basically, including complex ones, most chords can be represented with chord symbols.
These are never the sort of things you should 'memorize.'Something that an adult would be able to understandIt is.
Once you understand the “mechanism” of naming,You don't need to memorize a huge amount.。
Of course, it does take some practice to be able to judge code instantly, but if even a tipsy beginner old guy can understand it, then doesn’t that mean anyone can master it if they’re sober and focused? (lol)
Chord charts flooding the streets
Many people probably haven’t paid much attention to it, but if you look closely at sheet music for non-classical pieces, you’ll sometimes see chords written like “F7” or “B♭m7.”
Guitarists often look at this, recall it by making the finger shapes that correspond to the chords, and then play. You can do exactly the same thing on the piano.。
Also, nowadays you can find the chords for songs with a certain level of recognition on the internet.
Here are the results when I tried searching for “Marunouchi Sadistic code.”

You can see the chords for Marunouchi Sadistic on any of these sites.
Since these aren’t musical scores, I can’t say exactly when the chords change, but the lyrics and chords are roughly aligned in position. Most of them can be played without any problem once you get used to them.。
Even a tipsy beginner old man understood it.
Although he said he couldn’t grasp it verbally, it seemed he understood it in his head.
Even a slightly tipsy beginner uncle who can almost—but not quite—play “Neko Funjatta” understood it, so you reading this article should definitely give it a try as a reference.
