Cherry blossom display

One display you often see at kindergarten graduation and entrance ceremonies is cherry blossoms.
This craft creates three-dimensional flowers by pinning together petals cut from construction paper.
A single flower can look a bit lonely, so try making lots and decorating with them.
You can also prepare a wall sticker of tree branches and arrange the blossoms on it for a striking effect.
Another option is to make large flowers to fit your display space.
To do that, you’ll need to draw big circles—just trace the bottom of a bucket or something similar for an easy guide.

arched window

How about an arched window motif with a fantastical, medieval church-like atmosphere? You can easily make it with just 16 sets of light-blue squares and pink petal-shaped origami! Line up the squares horizontally and glue them together, then cut along a semicircle to create the window frame.
Glue cherry blossom petals on top, repeat the steps, and you’ll be done in no time! It’s simple, so even young children can give it a try—another nice point.
Also, please be sure that adults handle any tasks involving scissors.
cherry blossom petals

The way to fold cherry blossom petals is useful in many situations.
This method expresses a cherry blossom using just one sheet of origami.
Since it only requires a single cut with scissors, it’s safe and easy for children to do on their own.
If you write names on the blossoms you make, they can serve as name tags for graduation or entrance ceremonies.
And after the ceremony, wouldn’t it be lovely to stick them on the wall to resemble a cherry tree? Of course, you can also just attach them as-is to make a wall decoration.
In that case, arranging many of them together will likely look beautiful.
weeping cherry (tree)
Even among cherry blossoms, how about making a wall decoration inspired by weeping cherry trees? As the name suggests, their distinctive look is the way the branches hang down, which creates a calm, serene atmosphere.
Incidentally, the flower language for weeping cherry is “maturity,” making it perfect for expressing children’s growth.
When crafting with construction paper, cut out many small petals and layer and paste them so they cascade downward.
Creating several branches will help convey the elegant feel of a weeping cherry even more.
Also, mixing petals of slightly different shades is a good tip.
garland

Garlands, which originated in ancient Egypt and were used in religious ceremonies, are called “hanawa” in Japanese, meaning flower rings, and refer to something like a shorter version of a wreath.
The key is to use decorative paper pre-printed with motifs such as cherry blossoms.
Fold it into two mountain folds to form a cherry blossom shape, then create a slightly smaller cherry blossom shape from a different design.
Finally, valley-fold the center, stack them, and thread them onto a long string to finish.
The cute design is sure to bring smiles to children’s faces!
Cherry blossoms shaped like a heart

Let’s make cherry blossoms where you can see lots of cute heart shapes.
First, fold the origami paper several times to make a small triangle.
Then, make small cuts with scissors so that heart shapes appear when you unfold the paper—that’s it! If you also round off the corner edges of the folded triangle, the cherry blossom petals will look heart-shaped too.
When you open it up, you’ll see many hearts inside the cherry blossom! You can use the cut-out hearts as decorations as well—stick them on the wall as hearts, or as drifting cherry blossom petals!

Let’s create using everyday materials! Here are some cherry blossom craft ideas using straw stamps.
When you think of spring, many people probably imagine cherry blossoms.
This time, let’s make cherry blossoms using straws, a material familiar to children.
You will need construction paper, straws, scissors, paint, and crayons.
Draw the cherry tree trunk with crayons on the construction paper, then use cut straws to spread thinned paint.
It works well if you snip the tip of the straw with scissors to make five petals!
