How do you spend your recess at school?

Some of you might play party games with your friends!

Party games that are fun even during school breaks used to be popular on TV variety shows, but these days, games played by YouTubers are getting all the buzz!

In this article, we’ll introduce a wide range of games—from timeless classics to those trending on YouTube!

It’s packed with fun games that will make you think, “We want to try that ourselves!!” so be sure to give them a go!

Limited Shiritori

We'll play shiritori using only things found in a University of Tokyo student's home.
Limited Shiritori

I’d like to introduce a game called “limited shiritori” that really livens things up at school and similar settings.

Unlike regular shiritori, you set a restriction—like English words only, or only four-letter words.

Then you just continue the shiritori following that theme.

You can make it even more exciting by rotating the right to choose the next theme or by adding penalties for losing.

It’s a game that people of all ages can enjoy, and it can help develop language skills, so it’s also great for families.

Don’t copy me, okay? / No copying, okay?NEW!

Let’s play a game called “Don’t Overlap!” where players must not give the same answer to a prompt.

Prepare several prompts, and each participant writes down exactly one answer that fits the prompt.

If none of the participants’ answers overlap, the challenge is a success; if even one overlaps, the challenge fails.

Prepare prompts that are easy for anyone to answer, such as “What’s a fruit?” or “What’s a spring flower?” If there are many participants, divide into teams and compete to see how many times each team can succeed.

Intro Quiz

Intro Quiz

The classic “intro quiz” has always been a hit party game that livens up any generation! These days, since everyone has a smartphone, you can enjoy an intro quiz easily anywhere.

Pick songs everyone knows—like popular J‑pop hits or well-known anime themes—and give it a try.

If you want to raise the difficulty, have players name not only the song title but also the artist, or for anime songs, require the anime title as well.

Get creative and have fun!

Name BingoNEW!

Name 9-Square Bingo [Party Game for Banquets, Parties, Year-End Parties! After-Parties!]
Name BingoNEW!

A perfect game for remembering the names of people you’re meeting for the first time is “Name Bingo.” When you think of bingo, it’s the game where you punch a hole in your card if a called number appears on it, and you win if you get a line of holes.

Name Bingo follows the same rules, except that you use names instead of numbers.

Prepare a list of participants in advance and create cards by selecting from that list.

It’s a good idea to have the person whose name is called introduce themselves.

Chorus Quick-Sing GameNEW!

Chorus Quick-Sing GameNEW!

This is the “Chorus Speed-Singing Game,” where you race to sing the chorus of the given song first! There are several songs, and the person who gives the most correct answers by the end wins.

Having broad music knowledge gives you an advantage, but singing the chorus instead of the intro is surprisingly tricky, and the moments of thinking “How did it go again?” add to the excitement.

Some people may feel shy about singing in front of others, but since only the chorus is sung in a buzzer-quiz style, everyone is sure to have fun.

balloon volleyballNEW!

Pounding Heart Balloon Volleyball

Let’s enjoy volleyball using balloons.

The balloons used in this game have super balls inside.

Adding a super ball makes the balloons fall faster and move differently, increasing the difficulty and making it more fun.

Participants should face each other in a circle and bat the balloon around so it doesn’t fall.

You can play in teams and have the team that keeps the balloon from dropping the longest win, or if there are fewer participants, it’s recommended to have the person who drops the balloon the fewest times be the winner.

Party Games That Get the School Hyped (21–30)

Ping-pong Ball Defense

Dodge it! Slip past it! Ping-Pong Ball Defense that demands top-notch dynamic vision [Party Game, Drinking Party, Year-End Party, After-Party!]
Ping-pong Ball Defense

A ping-pong ball game where you compete to see how many incoming ping-pong balls you can dodge! First, with help from the table tennis club, prepare a large number of ping-pong balls.

Then split into throwers and dodgers.

The dodger must not move their feet at all and can only use upper-body movements to evade the incoming balls.

The throwers simply keep throwing, aiming to hit the opponent.

You can compete by seeing how many balls you can dodge out of the total thrown, or by how many you can dodge within a set time—the rules for deciding the winner are up to you! Put your dynamic vision to full use!
