On June 15, 1873 (Meiji 6), the then Kisarazu Prefecture and Inba Prefecture merged to form present-day Chiba Prefecture. To commemorate this, June 15 was designated as "Chiba Prefecture Day" in 1984 (Showa 59). Every year on June 15, it serves as an important day to celebrate Chiba Prefecture’s birthday and to learn about the prefecture’s history and culture.
