[Hilarious] One-Liner Gags That Kill at Parties and Events

When someone says, “Show us a one-shot gag!”, you can’t help but freeze up, right? But if you know some funny physical skits and gags, there’s nothing to fear in those moments! In fact, once you get the hang of a few simple moves and the timing, there are tons of bits that are guaranteed to get laughs.

In this article, we’ll introduce a wide range—from classic routines anyone can imitate right away to story-driven skits that can instantly liven up the room.

Now then, starting today, you’re a comedy star too!

Sketch-style, physical comedy one-liner gags (1–10)

Don’t worry, I’m wearing them.Yasumura, Always Cheerful

[Bowling ver.] A show that looks like they're completely naked – Don't worry, they're wearing something.
Don't worry, I'm wearing them. Tonikaku Akarui Yasumura

Atsuhiko Yasumura’s routine where he wears only a single pair of underpants, strikes a pose that suits the situation so the underwear seems hidden, and then finishes by clearly showing them with the line, “Don’t worry, I’m wearing them!” The bit was a massive hit in 2015, making him instantly famous and sparking a huge craze.

He appeared on the British talent show Britain’s Got Talent—the same show that launched Susan Boyle—in 2023, where he was a big hit and the routine drew renewed attention.

It’s a skit especially recommended for slightly stout men.

Gag Collection Alterna Channel

The popular YouTuber channel Orutana Channel is famous for its funny one-shot gags.

This video is a collection of 100 of their one-shot gags.

There’s a chance they might fall flat, but if you go ahead and try them anyway, they could end up being funny as “so-bad-it’s-good” gags.

Since there are 100 of them, we recommend practicing the ones you think you can pull off and giving them a try.

[Gag] Fried Rice [Satsumakawa RPG]

At Chinese restaurants, fried rice is tossed in a wok over high heat, and that fluffy, loose texture is what makes it delicious.

Here’s a surreal gag that incorporates that wok-tossing motion: you toss the fried rice over a cliff, and then you only eat the portion of fried rice that makes its way back over the cliff.

It’s a powerful gag that most ordinary people wouldn’t come up with.

And when you specifically imagine the individual grains of rice and bits of ingredients climbing up the cliff, it gradually gets funnier.

Give it a try as a party trick or for some entertainment.

Sketch-style, body-based one-shot gags (11–20)

Child of a karate practitionerCro Cop

This is one of Crocop’s signature bits: demonstrating karate moves to the rhythm of the children’s song “Abraham’s Children.” The routine builds by adding one technique at a time, so the two performers’ moves gradually become more complex and more powerful.

The fact that it’s done as a duo is also important—one of them gets tired and starts slacking off toward the end, trying not to let it show.

It’s also fun how more and more movements unrelated to karate get added in, shifting the focus to showcasing the sharpness of their motions.

Nooo!Tom Brown

Nooo! Tom Brown

Tom Brown is a duo whose banter—between Hiroki Nunokawa and Michio—becomes strangely addictive.

Since being selected as finalists in the 2018 M-1 Grand Prix, their popularity has surged, and they’ve been appearing on many variety and other TV shows.

Their signature gag is the very simple “Dame!” (“No!” or “Not allowed!”).

When someone makes a suggestion, they swing their arms dramatically and deliver the line while tapping the top of the head like a tsukkomi.

Try practicing it as a comeback when someone does a silly bit!

[Manzai] I'm going to become an apparel shop clerk! #112
Nail Thousand-Armed Kannon Party-chan

The comedy trio Party-chan’s bit “Nail Thousand-Armed Kannon.” It’s a routine you can probably do if you have at least two friends with cool nails.

There’s something about a vertical formation—people lined up one behind the other—that makes you feel like something’s about to happen, right? You could start with Nail Thousand-Armed Kannon, then move on to “Choo Choo Train,” and include any other skits that work with a vertical lineup.

It’s flexible in terms of headcount too, from about two people to a large group.

Aim for a routine that your audience will enjoy, and practice together in front of a mirror.

Surprising Taiko DrumsKumada Masashi

Here’s Masashi Kumada’s one-shot gag, “Surprise Taiko.” Dressed like he’s wearing bloomers or trunks, he holds drumsticks in both hands and pretends to play a taiko drum.

He turns around, gradually raises both hands, and as the excitement builds, what he’s wearing rides up, revealing his butt—that’s the joke.

Since his butt gets exposed, if that could be a problem, wear tight shorts underneath.

You can even write a fortune result like “Great Luck” on your butt to turn it into a fortune-telling bit.

If you connect the taiko drumsticks to the hem of the bloomers with fishing line, it should be easier for beginners to pull off.
