Surprise Parfait

[Kindergarten/Preschool] July Dream Big Parfait: Drawing and Crafts
Surprise Parfait

Why not try making a jumbo parfait of your dreams together with the kids? First, cut tissue paper into circles and paint them with watercolors.

Next, tear pieces of origami paper and paste them onto a template with a parfait glass drawn on it.

In addition to origami, using crumpled floral paper adds a three-dimensional finish.

You can use the circular tissue paper as scoops of ice cream, make Pocky sticks or pudding out of origami—by combining various materials, it will look just as delicious as a real parfait.

Have fun making it together with the kids in a lively, cheerful atmosphere!

Pig-shaped mosquito coil holder and wind chime

[Kindergarten/Preschool] July Pig Mosquito Coil & Wind Chimes! Painting/Crafts
Pig-shaped mosquito coil holder and wind chime

Transform a single paper plate into a pig-shaped mosquito coil and a wind chime! This is an idea for creating summer-themed motifs.

Cut out the center of the paper plate and use the circular piece as a wind chime.

Have the children draw patterns on it with crayons.

You can also use a resist technique by painting over it with watercolors.

Meanwhile, color the rim of the paper plate and add pig ears to make it into a mosquito coil.

Displaying both side by side on construction paper will make for a lively and enjoyable craft project.

Note: Since a utility knife is used to cut out the paper plate, be sure that this step is performed by a teacher or guardian.

boing-boing jellyfish

Jellyfish are popular at aquariums, too.

Watching them drift and sway is so soothing! These cool-looking jellyfish are a perfect motif for a July craft.

On a sheet of construction paper, create an underwater scene by cutting tissue paper and colored paper into seaweed and rocks, and let jellyfish painted with watercolors swim through it.

Using pipe cleaners or raffia ribbon for the jellyfish tentacles helps convey movement.

Also, if you dilute the paint with plenty of water and apply it lightly, you’ll get a nice sense of transparency.

When attaching the pieces to the construction paper, adding a 3D element will likely delight the children.

A fish with colorful scales

Make colorful fish scales! Perfect for August summer wall displays (recommended for ages 4 and up)
A fish with colorful scales

In summer, we often go to the beach or play in rivers, which means lots of chances to get close to fish.

So let’s try making a cute fish craft with colorful scales! Cut construction paper into the shape of a fish and stick on an eye.

For the scales, draw circles on origami paper, cut them out with scissors, fold each one in half, and glue them onto the fish.

Prepare origami in a variety of colors so children can choose their favorites.

If you include transparent or glittery origami, your fish will have a fresh, summery look.

Summer camp

[Kindergarten/Daycare] With open-and-close interactive features! August Summer Camp Painting and Craft Project
Summer camp

This is a craft project with a camping theme.

First, paint patterns with paint on construction paper, fold it into a triangle to make a tent that can open and close.

Attach it to the center of a sheet of construction paper, then create and arrange trees, flowers, and a campfire made from tissue paper around it, gluing them in place.

Finally, make a child out of construction paper and stick them inside the tent, and it’s complete! When you open the tent, you can see a child enjoying camping—such a fun craft.

You can draw the child directly on the tent, or it might be interesting to add a pop-up mechanism that makes the child spring out when opened.

Colorful fireworks with straws

When it comes to making fireworks with straws, stamping and blow painting are classics, but here’s an idea that uses short straw pieces to depict fireworks.

First, prepare straws in your favorite colors and cut them into pieces about 1 cm long.

On a round piece of black construction paper, arrange the straw pieces to resemble fireworks.

Adding pom-poms or round stickers in the gaps makes it extra cute.

Finally, attach your fireworks to a sheet of holographic origami paper cut slightly larger than the black circle—and you’re done! Try using straws in various colors to capture the festive brilliance of fireworks.

Colorful turtle made with masking tape

This is an art project that colorfully depicts turtles, a creature popular with children.

First, prepare white drawing paper and have the children place masking tape while imagining a turtle’s shell.

Once the tape is on, get some paints ready and have them color the white areas of the paper in bright colors.

After the paint dries, peel off the tape to reveal a colorful shell! Cut the paper into a shell shape, then attach parts for the head, legs, and tail to complete the turtle.

Don’t forget to draw the face with crayons, too.
