A hot summer when heatstroke precautions mean more time spent indoors.

Crafts using summer motifs nurture children’s imagination and expressive skills, and help them develop fine motor skills, too.

Fireworks with stamps

Let’s try using a toilet paper roll to create fireworks.
It’s suitable for ages 3 and up, and a nice touch is that kids can join in from the stamp-making step! First, make lots of cuts into the toilet paper roll from the edge partway down.
The length of the cuts will change the size of the fireworks.
You can make stamps in various sizes to make it even more fun.
Once the stamps are ready, dip them into paint poured into a tray, then stamp them onto black construction paper.
Stamp away and create your own fireworks just the way you like!
Stained glass-style fireworks

How about making stained-glass-style art that can capture the sparkle of summer fireworks? Fold a piece of black construction paper and cut out several triangles.
When you unfold it, you’ll see a fireworks-like pattern.
Next, stick colorful cellophane onto a sheet of parchment paper.
Using lots of different colors will make it look even more like stained glass.
Finally, layer the black paper over the parchment paper, and it’s complete! When light shines through, it glows beautifully.
It seems like the perfect summer craft to spark children’s imagination.
Chocolate banana stall

Why not make a classic festival chocolate-banana stand? If you’re doing this with three-year-olds, the teacher should pre-cut the banana shapes and let the children start from the coloring.
Once the bananas are colored, stick on decorations made from finely cut origami paper.
It’s easiest if you apply glue over the whole banana first and then sprinkle the pieces on top.
Finally, decorate construction paper to look like a food stall, and line up and paste the chocolate bananas to finish! Create a delicious-looking chocolate-banana stand and enjoy a summery vibe.
Rocket wind chime

The rocket-style wind chime adapted for five-year-olds features a unique design that captures children’s interest.
Cut a plastic bottle in half, wrap vinyl tape around the cut edge, make a hole in the center, and thread a string through it and tie it.
The teacher should handle these steps.
Then have the children work on making a spiral strip from construction paper and creating parts like the rocket’s nose cone and fins using origami or construction paper.
Once all the parts are ready, attach them to the plastic bottle and it’s finished! Adding stars or glitter enhances the outer-space feel—give it a try.
This craft helps develop five-year-olds’ expressive skills and fine motor abilities.
It’s perfect for creating fun summer memories, so please give it a go.
Summer Vegetable Wreath
Let’s make a summer vegetable wreath.
First, cut a paper plate in half and cut out the center.
Color the rim with a brown crayon and blend it with a tissue.
Then, punch holes along the inner edge of the rim and thread a string through.
Make the vegetables using circles cut from construction paper.
You’ll make four: cucumber, eggplant, tomato, and corn.
For the cucumber, roll the paper into a tube and draw the pattern.
For the eggplant, add a calyx and fold the end to the back to shape it.
For the corn, glue leaves and decorative pom-poms onto the base.
For the tomato, attach strips of paper in an arch shape.
Once all the vegetables are finished, glue them onto the paper plate, attach a hanging string, and you’re done!

Grand Fireworks Painting in the Night Sky

What you need: black construction paper, paints, and crayons.
Simple yet striking, the colorful hues pop against the black background in this fun finger-stamp fireworks painting.
First, draw the lines of the fireworks on the black paper with crayons.
Next, use finger stamps to dab on your favorite colors.
Aside from encouraging them to “try to put the colors on the fireworks lines as much as possible,” let the children create freely so they can enjoy drawing at their own pace.
Try to spark conversation, too, by asking, “Have you ever seen fireworks?” or “What colors did you see?”
Origami Goldfish & Construction Paper Poi

Here’s a crafting idea for making a goldfish scooping set using origami paper and construction paper.
Wrap a crumpled tissue with origami paper, secure it with a pipe cleaner, shape the tail, then stick on a round sticker and draw the eye—your goldfish is done, and it’s easy! The scooper (poi) can be made simply by combining a round-cut piece of construction paper with a pair of chopsticks, so it could also be used as a summer recreation activity.
You can make it even more vibrant by using your favorite colors of origami paper, and thanks to its cute look, it also works great as a room decoration.
Give it a try!
