Special Effects, Piercing, and Teleportation Magic (1–10)
A magic trick where a card passes through (something)
Let me introduce a magic trick with such a strong impact that you’ll want to shout, “That looks painful!” In short, it’s a trick where a playing card appears to pierce your arm.
The key is to use a special gimmick card with a hidden mechanism.
First, cut the card you want to ‘penetrate’ so it matches the curve of your arm.
Next, take a regular card, add a crease to it, and glue it to the first card.
Finally, attach the trimmed-off piece back onto the card, and your setup is complete.
During the performance, press the card against your arm and simultaneously fold the slitted section inward—this makes it look like the card has gone straight through your arm!
Special Effects, Piercing, and Teleportation Magic (11–20)
The chosen card teleports from the hand in an instant.
It’ll really get a reaction if the chosen card in someone’s hand ends up in a different place.
You can perform this surprising trick just by picking up a few simple tips.
First, have them choose one card from a set of eight.
While they’re memorizing it, the key is to secretly split the remaining cards into piles of four and three.
Then, combine sleight-of-hand techniques like placing the chosen card on the pile of three in the right order and how you display the cards.
Magic often involves lots of nimble, hands-on moves, but that’s exactly why you can deliver those “Wow!” moments.
A card passes through a card
It’s a magic trick where you press another playing card against the crease of a card that’s been folded in half, and it appears to pass through as if tracing the fold.
Being able to show the intermediate stages slowly makes the effect feel even more impossible.
In reality, the folded card is made from two cards combined; from the crease to the near half, magnets clamp them together so that, from the front, it looks like a single card.
You then slide the other card through the gap between the magnets to create the appearance of penetration.
Since the gimmick is thoroughly prepared in advance, make sure to perform from angles that keep it out of sight.
A magic trick where the cards penetrate each other
Here’s an introduction to a magic trick where two cards seem to pass through each other.
It’s puzzling to see one card penetrate another when the card doesn’t look cut, right? Since it’s magic, of course the card is actually cut.
Take one card and cut it across at about one-third of its length.
Attach the cut pieces to a clear plastic sheet the same size as a card.
For the wider piece, stick it down leaving the center section unglued.
Then, when you slide another card through, it looks like it’s penetrating.
Making it appear as though the card isn’t cut is an important magician’s tip.
The playing cards turned completely white in an instant… astonishing whiteness.
This is a stunning magic trick where, in an instant, every card turns completely blank.
You’ll use two sets of cards, 25 each: blank-face cards (white on the face) and blank-back cards (white on the back).
For the setup, take one card from each set.
Round the bottom-right and top-left corners of the blank-back card, and round the bottom-left and top-right corners of the blank-face card.
Stack the blank-face cards together, placing the prepared blank-face card on top.
Then place the prepared blank-back card on top of that, and finally stack the remaining blank-back cards on top.
You’ll perform using this packet.
Have a spectator choose one card from the blank-back cards and insert it into the position where the prepared blank-face card sits.
Next, turn the entire packet face down, then flip only the block of blank-back cards now near the bottom.
At this point, all cards except the selected one should have their white sides facing down.
Finally, turn the cards over and spread them: every card except the selected one has turned completely blank, creating a shocking magical reveal.
Before you know it, only one card chosen by the deck remains.
How about a magic trick where the playing cards vanish all at once? First, have your spectator choose a card and place it into the middle of the deck.
Then, after casting a little spell, the entire deck transforms into just a single card! When you turn it over, amazingly, it’s the spectator’s chosen card.
The secret is that this trick uses a setup with double-sided tape.
The tricky part is keeping only the selected card and letting the other cards fall onto your lap, so practice that part many times!
Teleportation magic using two Jokers
Introducing a magic trick where two Joker cards teleport in an instant—you won’t be able to take your eyes off it.
When holding the cards, subtly adjust the angles so you’re not seen.
It’s also key to keep things fast-paced while directing the audience’s gaze toward other cards.
Practice so that spreading and counting the cards becomes smooth.
Ahead of the performance, practice in front of a mirror to check how it looks from the audience’s perspective—highly recommended!
