[Western Music] Both Speed and Bittersweet Feels! Recommended Melodic Hardcore/Punk Bands [2026]

In the 2020s, what kind of image comes to mind when you hear the music genre “melocore”? Chances are, the bands and sounds you think of vary depending on your generation.

The heyday of melocore in the ’90s, the early 2000s boom of pop punk and youth punk, the mid-2010s onward pop-punk revival—each band has had its own sound.

In this piece, we focus on melocore—short for melodic hardcore—which has become established in Japan as the abbreviation for melodic hardcore, just as the name suggests.

We’ll also look at related styles like pop punk, selecting both veteran acts and rising younger bands drawing attention in the 2020s.

[Western Music] Both Sprinting Energy and Bittersweet Emotion! Recommended Melodic Hardcore (Melocore) Bands [2026] (61–70)

Included on the 2003 album Ocean Avenue.

A four-piece band formed in 1997 from Florida.

They have a violinist in the lineup—a very rare setup for a punk band.

The hard punk rock sound accented by the violin creates a truly one-of-a-kind sound.

Gorilla BiscuitsGorilla Biscuits

Gorilla Biscuits played a crucial role in the late-1980s hardcore movement.

Despite the genre’s hallmark intensity and fast tempos, the band stood out with songs that featured plenty of accessible, melodic guitar riffs.

You can sense their raw yet catchy appeal in the title track from their 1988 LP, Gorilla Biscuits.

No SaviorDefeater

In the 2000s, Boston, Massachusetts produced many bands that fused traditional hardcore sounds with influences from European melodic death metal, sparking the so-called metalcore boom.

DEFEATER was born in this city, which holds an important place in hardcore history.

Centered on what you might call post-hardcore, their sound is modern yet imbued with an old-school flavor.

A solid, muscular band ensemble underpins their dramatically unfolding song structures, while vocals that meld ineffable melancholy with searing passion press forward as one—resonating all the way down to the most delicate corners of the listener’s heart.

Among pop-punk bands that debuted in the 2010s, Neck Deep stands out as a popular group from Wales, UK, that also found success in the United States.

Formed in 2012, they were quickly recognized for their talent and signed to the esteemed American indie label Hopeless Records.

With each release, their sales grew, and their third album, The Peace and the Panic, released in 2018, achieved the remarkable feat of reaching No.

4 on both the UK and US charts.

True to their influences—blink-182 and early Fall Out Boy—their appeal lies in bright, melodic pop punk.

As their career has progressed, they’ve broadened their musical range, amassing a wealth of standout tracks, including mid-tempo, bittersweet songs—another key strength.

If you’re looking for fast, high-energy numbers, check out their 2014 debut album Wishful Thinking and their 2015 second album Life’s Not Out to Get You!

STRENGTHSaviour

Saviour – Strength (Official Lyric Video)
STRENGTHSaviour

SAVIOUR is a five-piece band from Australia known for its dual male-female vocals.

The aggressive, melancholic hardcore-style screams from the male vocalist and the languid singing of the lone female member, who also handles keyboards, create a striking contrast that makes their sound compelling and distinctly unique.

Their songs are crafted with a dramatic structure, weaving in clean tones and metallic riffs, while the delicate timbre of the keyboards adds color to the sound.

You shouldn’t expect sheer speed, but if you’re looking to hear something different—music influenced by hardcore yet with a different flavor—this is a band I highly recommend.

PhantomsAlazka

ALAZKA – “Phantoms” (Lyric Video)
PhantomsAlazka

This is “Phantoms” by the German post-hardcore band Alazka.

They originally went by the name Burning Down Alaska, but changed it to Alazka in 2017.

Since this track was released in 2015, it’s from before the name change.

It falls into the screamo vein, but the band’s sound isn’t all that dark—if anything, it has a sense of clarity.

Especially in the latter half, the beautiful melodies and roaring volume blend together in a way that almost feels like shoegaze, making it an easy entry point even for newcomers to melodic hardcore.

Weathered TownHundredth

Hundredth – Weathered Town (Official Music Video)
Weathered TownHundredth

This is a song called “Weathered Town” by Hundred, a melodic punk band from South Carolina.

The lyrics sing about leaving the place you were, carrying only memories, and moving forward—the pain and determination that come with it.

One of the song’s charms is how technical it is, with changes in tempo and time signature throughout.

The musicianship is immediately overwhelming.

It moves through sections that feel like a full-on sprint and others where you can really lock into the downbeat, one after another.

It’s included on the album Let Go.
