Rabbits, familiar to children through picture books and events like moon-viewing, are among the animals they love.
They’re also a motif you’ll definitely want to include in pretend play and craft activities.
Three-year-olds are gradually getting used to origami.
How about taking the plunge and trying rabbit origami? The ideas we’re introducing this time are relatively simple, but there are steps that involve thinking, like folding back and puffing up parts.
Teachers, please join in as well.
A rabbit they fold themselves will feel special to them and is sure to become a favorite creation.

Cute snow bunny

Here’s an origami idea for a snow rabbit that you’ll want to make whenever it snows, just like a snowman.
Prepare one sheet of white origami paper, fold it in half diagonally once to make a crease, then unfold.
Fold the left edge in half along the crease, then fold the remaining right corner inward to form a triangle.
Next, fold the triangle’s three corners inward while checking the shape to create the snow rabbit’s base.
Once the base is done, attach ears made from green origami paper and add eyes using small red round stickers, and you’re done! With these simple steps, you can make a snow rabbit that looks just like the real thing—give it a try!
A rabbit that can stand upright

Here’s a way to fold a stand-up rabbit.
First, fold the origami paper into a triangle.
Fold it into a triangle again to make a crease.
Next, take only the top layer of the top corner, fold it down to the bottom edge, and make a crease.
Then fold both top layers down together, aligning them with the crease.
Take the left and right corners and fold them up toward the center.
Fold the left and right corners again, leaving about a 1 cm gap at the center.
Diagonally fold the top corners to make the rabbit’s ears, and fold the bottom corner up to the middle to complete the shape.
Draw the facial features.
If you make a small downward fold on the last folded corner, it will stand up for display.
Since this is a bit complex for three-year-olds, please make it together in a small group with care.
lop-eared rabbit

Let me introduce an origami rabbit with cute folded ears.
First, fold the paper in half into a square, then in half again to make crease lines, and unfold.
Next, fold it into a triangle to make a crease and unfold, then make a crease along the other diagonal as well.
Collapse along the creases to form a square base (preliminary fold).
Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner, and do the same on the back.
Fold the left and right corners toward the center, and make a small, modest fold at the bottom corner.
Turn it over and fold one ear outward.
Finally, draw a cute face.
rabbit daruma

With two sheets of origami paper, you can make a cute snowman bunny.
Folding two pieces might be challenging for a three-year-old, so consider doing it on different days or having an adult make the body.
First, fold the origami paper into a triangle twice.
Open it back to the first triangle, then fold up the bottom edge about 1.5 cm.
Next, fold both ends up to meet the top corner.
Fold the left, right, and bottom corners, flip it over, and tuck the top corner inward.
The bunny’s face is done! For the body, fold the paper into a square twice, open it up, and fold all four corners to the center.
Then fold the four corners to the center again.
Finally, round the shape by folding the corners in slightly, and you’re finished! Connect the two parts together.
A bunny with plump, fluffy ears

A rabbit with plump ears is not only fun to fold but also to display.
First, fold it in half into a triangle to make a crease.
Fold both side corners to meet the crease.
After folding the bottom corner up, fold it back down so a little bit of the corner peeks out from the bottom.
Turn it over and fold the pointed corner to meet the opposite corner.
Fold the whole thing in half, offset the top and bottom, and lift up the rabbit’s ears.
Tuck the bottom corner inward.
Make a small cut with scissors in the center of the ear section, then spread the ears to the left and right.
Draw the eyes, and you’re done!
A rabbit made with two sheets of origami

Using two sheets of origami paper, you can make a rabbit with a face and a body.
It’s best to work carefully with a small group.
First, fold the first sheet into a triangle twice.
Open up the triangle that has a pocket.
It goes more smoothly if an adult does the opening.
Once the paper is back to a square, fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.
After folding the front and back, fold both sides in toward the center.
Shape the face, bend the ears, and the face is done.
For the body, fold along the center line created by folding into a triangle, then fold the top and bottom sections inward.
Fold the bottom corner up, then fold it back down.
Finally, fold the top corner down and fold the whole piece in half.
Attach the two parts, and your rabbit is complete!
Rabbit with peekaboo ears

Would you like to try making a cute origami rabbit? First, fold the origami paper into a triangle.
Next, fold up the base of the triangle by 2 centimeters.
For a three-year-old, the finer folds might still be tricky, so an adult should help.
Then, fold both corners up to meet the top point.
The center will form a square, so fold in the two sides and the bottom corner, flip it over, and tuck the top corner inside.
Draw the rabbit’s face with a pen, and it’s done.
Have fun making them together with everyone!
