Irresistible for 5-year-olds! A collection of recommended craft ideas for Halloween
Last updated:

Halloween season is finally here! Here are some magical craft ideas you can enjoy with five-year-olds.

Crafts featuring ghosts and pumpkin motifs spark children’s imaginations and liven up any costume party.

From glow-in-the-dark lights in a pitch-black room to colorful lanterns and cute ghost mobiles, every project will have them working with shining eyes.

Once everything’s finished, let’s all enjoy a Halloween party together! Be sure to make happy memories with the children.

Because the children’s creations are treated as finished works, the term “制作 (seisaku)” is used in the text to mean “production/creation.”

Ideas 1–10: Halloween crafts that will captivate 5-year-olds!

Halloween hat

[Halloween Crafts] Make it with just construction paper! Cute pumpkins, black cats, and straw hats [DIY]
Halloween hat

Using two sheets of construction paper in your favorite colors, here’s a cute hat that’s perfect for Halloween.

When making the 3D hat section, use glue or tape to assemble it.

If you make it too large, it may end up loose, so it’s best for a teacher to check the children’s head sizes and adjust while making it.

When attaching the paper and cutting the brim of the hat with scissors, be careful not to cut too much.

You can also make cat eyes and ears to turn it into a black cat hat, so definitely give it a try.

Matching it with a costume is recommended, too.

Toko-toko Pumpkin

[Craft] Halloween Walking Pumpkin | DIY: How to Make a Walking Paper Cup Pumpkin
Toko-toko Pumpkin

Let’s make a pumpkin toy that toddles along.

You’ll need a clear plastic cup, a paper cup, a battery, rubber bands, string, and construction paper.

First, cut two slits in the rim of the clear cup, leaving about a 1 cm gap at each slit.

Do the same on the opposite side, then make a hole roughly in the middle between the two slits.

The cup is stiff, so it’s best for an adult to do this step in advance.

Next, wrap the string around the center of the battery and rubber bands around both ends.

Thread the string through the hole to the outside and attach a paper clip to secure it.

Hook the rubber bands onto the slits in the cup.

Decorate the paper cup like a pumpkin using construction paper, then place it over the clear cup—that’s it! Pull the paper clip and let it go, and the pumpkin will start to walk.

We’ll show you how to make a ghost wand that can even turn you into a little wizard using black construction paper, a clear plastic bag, and color film.

It’s fun to make the ghost’s outline in your own original shape.

Add color film to transform it into a cute ghost.

For the face, you can draw it with a pen or make eyes with stickers—both look adorable.

Finish it off with a stylish ribbon and you’re done.

It’ll be perfect for pretend wizard play.

If you use a straw, be sure to set rules and use it carefully with children.

Spiderweb bag

[Halloween Craft] Let’s make a “Spider Web Bag” at preschool! Perfect for fine motor skill development with lace threading. Make your bag and go get some treats! [For 5-year-olds]
Spiderweb bag

Here’s how to make a spiderweb bag that’s perfect for Halloween.

When threading yarn through the holes in the paper plate, you can choose any hole you like.

That way it shows personality and looks great.

Thread the yarn through various holes to complete your spiderweb.

It’s best to have the teacher staple on the handle.

Attach cute ghosts, pumpkins, and other decorations to your finished spiderweb bag, and you’re ready to set off for Halloween.

Dress up, grab your bag, and have fun on Halloween!

Halloween bag made using balloons

Halloween bag made using balloons

Here’s a pumpkin ghost you can make using scraps of construction paper.

Kids will love crumpling and tearing the leftover paper! When gluing the paper onto the balloon, liquid glue is easier to use.

When cutting the balloon with scissors, be sure it’s completely dry first.

Once the kids stick on the pumpkin’s face, it transforms into an original pumpkin.

If you attach cardstock to the handle area, it will be sturdier.

When it’s finished, enjoy it as a bag or decoration.

You can use this method to make other kinds of ghosts too, so give it a try!

Halloween cotton balls

Halloween cotton balls

We’re excited to share a cute craft that transforms cotton balls into Halloween pumpkins using water balloons! Inflate a water balloon to your desired size, then soak yarn in diluted glue and wrap it around the balloon.

For another balloon, use orange embroidery thread to capture the pumpkin color and make it look even more realistic.

Once the yarn is completely dry, pop the balloon with a toothpick, then attach googly eyes and a pipe-cleaner mouth to finish the ornament.

Your cotton balls have turned into an adorable ghost and pumpkin! Give it a try.

Halloween lights

[Ghost Light] Halloween Craft Haunted House (Nursery School / Kindergarten)
Halloween lights

Here’s a light that projects a ghost image—perfect for Halloween and guaranteed to be a hit even in a pitch-dark room.

All you need are a paper cup, plastic wrap, rubber bands, and a pen, so please have them ready.

When cutting a slit in the paper cup, be careful if you’re using a utility knife.

It’ll go more smoothly if the teacher prepares the slits in advance.

Once you draw your original ghost with a permanent marker, everyone can have fun with it! If you go over it twice, the colors will come out more vividly.

Try playing with it using a flashlight!
