Ball and balloon games you can play while seated (1–10)
In head-to-head matches too, it’s a ping-pong point game.

Recreation is also a place where people can connect with others.
With tabletop games that two people can play, you might spark even more conversation and excitement.
The Pinpoint Game involves placing a washbasin or basket in the middle of the table and trying to bounce ping-pong balls into it.
Seat older adults at both ends of the table and have them bounce the balls.
It can be fun as either a team competition or an individual match.
You can also adjust it for each person—for example, by moving the washbasin from the center of the table—and it’s fine to let someone try it on their own.
Use this idea as a reference and enjoy a wonderful time filled with smiles from the older adults.

It’s a soccer-like game where players split into teams and use uchiwa fans to control a balloon, aiming to get it into the opposing goal.
How you move the fan is key—decide whether to strike the balloon directly or propel it with wind—and keep steady control of the balloon toward the opponent’s side.
Even when the balloon isn’t near you, you can help by creating airflow, so it may be good to keep your arms moving at all times.
Because the distance to the other side is far, players tend to stretch their bodies over the table to reach the balloon.
Creating deliberate distance to encourage full-body movement is also recommended.
ball catcher

This is a game where you use a stick with a paper cup attached to the tip to collect balls lined up on a table.
There are also walls on the left and right sides of the table, so make good use of them to smoothly collect the balls.
A face-to-face match across the table is recommended, and trying to collect more balls than your opponent within a time limit tends to increase the speed of movement.
The longer the stick, the harder it is to handle, so once players get used to it, it’s also recommended to add variations such as changing the distance.
Seated Ball and Balloon Games (11–20)
Pitatto Ball

Simple but fun and exciting—let us introduce the “Stick-It Ball” game.
Place several long strips of tape on the table with the adhesive side facing up and secure them so they don’t move.
Using a wider tape is recommended.
Double-sided tape works, but you can also use single-sided tape by folding the sticky side back to stick it to the table.
Roll balls or ping-pong balls across the table and compete for points based on where they stick to the tape.
Set it up so that points increase the farther the sticking spot is from the rolling start.
You can make it even more fun by devising rolling strategies, like bouncing the ball to send it farther.
It’s an easy recreation activity even for older adults who may have difficulty with vigorous movement.
Don’t drop it! Ball Drop Game

Here’s an idea for a ball drop game that’s thrilling and exciting.
You’ll need a wire net, a large number of colored balls, and some clothes-drying poles.
First, set up the wire net in a triangular shape and insert the poles across the middle area.
Once that’s done, place the balls on top, and you’re ready to play.
Then, take turns removing one pole at a time.
Be careful not to let the balls fall.
It could be fun to discuss together which pole might be safe to pull out before making your move.
Balloon volleyball box-in

This is a game where you use a handheld uchiwa fan to hit a balloon upward and try to get it into a box placed in the center of the table.
Because the box is positioned out of arm’s reach, your control over how you launch the balloon is really put to the test.
People closer to the box end up moving their hands more, so it’s best to have everyone try multiple rounds, changing the starting positions and the box’s position to keep the balloon circulating evenly.
You can also adjust the box’s size and height to change the difficulty and help players focus even more.
Ball Grabbing Game

We’d like to introduce a bead-grabbing game that lets you train your dexterity while having fun.
You’ll need chopsticks, a spoon (renge), tongs, balls, and stones.
Surround the table on all sides so the balls won’t fall off.
Once you place the balls and stones, you’re ready to begin.
Participants can choose their tool—chopsticks, a spoon, or tongs.
The time limit is one minute.
At the start signal, use your chosen tool to pick up items from the table until nothing is left.
You’ll compete based on how many items you collected, but the score multiplier changes depending on the tool used: tongs are 1x, the spoon is 2x, and chopsticks are 3x, so choosing the right tool is important.
You can play either standing or seated, so anyone can enjoy it.
