It’s easy to enjoy not only for those who love fishing, but also for complete beginners.

The game involves placing various fish on a table and catching them with a rod.

A staff member calls out the name of a fish on the table, and the older adults look for it.

Because it requires split-second decisions, it helps develop their powers of observation.

Through this game, older adults can learn fish names, and it also serves as brain training, so it’s highly recommended.

Let’s try playing curling with paper cups on a tabletop, inspired by the excitement at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics! Since it’s played on a table, you can do it while seated, and using paper cups means you don’t need much strength.

Slide the paper cups toward the scoring areas marked on the table.

You can also knock off the opposing team’s cups.

The team with the highest total points from cups that end up in the scoring zone wins.

Why not make a paper-cup whack-a-mole game that stimulates both your hands and brain? All you need are easy-to-find items from a 100-yen shop, such as paper cups, disposable chopsticks, markers, and tape.

Make the hammer by firmly taping a disposable chopstick to a paper cup.

For the moles, simply draw illustrations on paper cups and they’re ready.

In senior facilities, it could be fun to have the residents draw the mole illustrations themselves.

To play, use the paper-cup hammer to cap the paper-cup moles and compete to see how many you can catch.

Trying with your non-dominant hand can also be effective for rehabilitation!

This is a simple game using paper cups and a fan (uchiwa).

Line up several paper cups in front of you and fan them forward to make them fall.

Cups that fall to the sides or toward you don’t count for points.

If you place a basket or similar container in front, you can immediately see how many cups fell forward and scored.

It’s a foul to touch the cups directly with the fan to knock them forward.

Also, when fanning, be careful not to touch the table.

The light, unpredictable movement of the paper cups is part of the fun!

I’ll introduce two games where you scoop paper cups! The first game is to scoop paper cups and place them on a tray.

Use a stick to lift the paper cups scattered on the floor and put them on the tray.

When the tray is full, keep stacking them higher.

If the cup you place on top slips inside the cup below, you don’t score any points.

You can use any kind of stick to scoop the cups, but something with a bit of weight is better for rehabilitation! The second game is to scoop paper cups and stack them vertically one after another.

Unlike the first game, you keep building the stack higher and higher.

Here’s an introduction to a recreational activity called “Combining Paper Cups.” Prepare one rubber band with several strings tied to it.

Using the rubber band setup, pick up a paper cup and stack it onto another.

Adjust the rubber band by pulling or loosening the strings.

It’s a fun game that also provides gentle arm exercise, making it highly recommended.

Because it’s done with several people, it naturally encourages cooperation and interaction, which helps promote communication.

Talking with others also stimulates the brain, offering potential brain-training benefits.

The interaction itself becomes something to look forward to and can help you feel more lively and positive each day.
