When she reaches for it, a laser sensor is triggered, sending an alert to her husband Jiro, who’s out playing golf, and her father, Tetsuya Takeda.

The two rush home, but Aso has already eaten the Akai Kitsune.

Jiro shouting, “That’s mine!” is a bit pitiful, but the over-the-top setup and direction are hilarious.

In the commercial, it announces, “Red or green—Which are you?” and says that a taste-test showdown is underway nationwide.

As for the outcome, it seems the Red Kitsune army won again this year, making the three-year campaign two wins to one in favor of the Red Kitsune.

In a surprising twist, he changes the menu to Midori no Tanuki just because “he wants to eat it.” That alone is already amusing, but then he spots a student adding the tempura topping at the end, and his astonishment at the idea makes it even funnier.

In a tense situation where they’re attacked by a giant octopus underwater, the two exchange a mismatched conversation: “Fox or Tanuki?” “It’s an octopus.” “No, I’m asking whether you want Red Kitsune or Green Tanuki!” “Do we have to do this now!?” You can’t help but laugh.

At the end of the commercial, they safely escape the octopus and eat Red Kitsune and Green Tanuki on the boat.

Tetsuya Takeda plays the old man, and Moka Kamishiraishi plays Princess Kaguya.

As they talk about how the tempura looks like the moon, the two enjoy Midori no Tanuki while gazing at the full moon.

But when Takeda blurts out, “The moon is Kaguya’s home—how nostalgic!” Kamishiraishi pointedly asks, “Have you been to the moon?” Flustered, Takeda tries to change the subject and keeps eating, while Kamishiraishi simply remarks, “The tiny shrimp really bring out the flavor—it’s delicious.” The commercial ends on a lingering note as they gaze at the moon and agree, “Tsukimi soba could be a good idea, too.”

It’s a commercial where Tetsuya Takeda declares, “For New Year’s, it’s got to be Midori no Tanuki!” and Ano-san innocently asks, “Why is that?” She goes on to check if the reason is the taste: “Because the tempura’s fluffy?” “Because it’s super shrimpy?” “Because the broth is so rich?” But in the end she cuts to the heart of it with, “Doesn’t that have nothing to do with New Year’s?” and Takeda-san can’t help but admit, “You’re right, it doesn’t.” The idea that soba is the New Year’s staple is humorously portrayed, and before you know it, you’ll find yourself reaching for a Midori no Tanuki.
