Now widely beloved as “Matsuken” and “Uesama” for his dazzling samba performances, Ken Matsudaira hails from Toyohashi City in Aichi Prefecture.

He was once chiefly known as a star for older audiences and a period drama leading man, most famous for his signature role in the series ‘Abarenbo Shogun.’ In recent years, however, the nationwide, long-running hit ‘Matsuken Samba’ has come to define his image, turning him into a character adored by everyone from children to adults.

Aya Hirano is a voice actress who has appeared in a wide range of anime, including The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and DEATH NOTE.

Her activities are not limited to voice acting—she also works as a singer and an actress.

Originally from Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture, she began her career as a child actor, making her debut as an actress before becoming a voice actress.

A year after her acting debut, she made her voice acting debut in the anime Angel Tales.

She has appeared in numerous major hits, and in 2006 she also debuted as a singer with Breakthrough.

Her clear, powerful vocals are striking, and in addition to her music career, she has performed in musicals, where she showcases her beautiful singing voice.

They fire up the crowd with powerful tracks like “ULTRA Cho MIRACLE SUPER VERY POWER BALL.” In 2018, they adopted their current name.

They’ve also performed anime theme songs and are increasing their media presence.

A four-piece rock band affectionately known as Furacan—Flower Companyz—who boldly proclaim, “No lineup changes! No hiatuses! No hit songs!” (laughs).

All four members are from Nagoya: vocalist Keisuke Suzuki, bassist Great Maekawa, and drummer Mr.

Konishi were classmates in junior high school, while guitarist Kenichi Takeyasu was Great Maekawa’s classmate in high school.

It’s a band formed by schoolmates.

Though they jokingly introduce themselves with “No hit songs!”, their signature track Shinya Kousoku (Midnight Highway) is a deeply memorable smash that virtually anyone who loves rock has heard.

T-SQUARE

TRUTHMasahiro Ando

T-SQUARE is an unshakably popular band that represents Japan’s fusion scene.

Its leader is guitarist Masahiro Ando from Nagoya.

Their signature song “TRUTH,” familiar as the theme for the F1 Grand Prix and likely heard by just about everyone at least once, was also composed by him.

Known for catchy melodies and technical performances, he has created many songs in addition to this one.

Ladybug Sambacherisshu

Yoshitaka Matsuzaki, a member of the husband-and-wife duo Cherish, is from Nagoya, and Etsuko Matsuzaki is from Kasugai City.

Their seventh single, The Ladybug Samba, became a million-seller and is Cherish’s biggest hit.
