Parent-child obstacle race with physical activity (1–10)

Let’s complete the puzzle together as a parent and child

Shota’s Sports Day 2021: “Let’s complete a puzzle together, parent and child.”
Let's complete the puzzle together as a parent and child

Work together with a partner to complete a giant puzzle.

This is a sports day event idea where you collaborate with parents or teachers to fit in one panel at a time, and when you finish assembling the large puzzle, you clear the game.

Teams are divided and complete the puzzle in a relay format.

Adults and children cooperate, think about where to place the panel they’re holding, then pass the baton to the next person.

The team that finishes the puzzle first wins.

For panels placed high up, have an adult lift the child so they can stick it on.

We can’t wait to see what picture appears at the end!

Animal role-play race

Animal role-play race

It’s a parent–child event that’s fun not only as a competition but also as a way to communicate together.

According to the rules, children start on their own, then meet up partway with their guardian, who is waiting and holding an animal mask.

After meeting, the parent and child aim for the finish line while acting like the animal on the mask.

Because of that, how well you’ve communicated and reflected the child’s wishes during the mask-making stage can affect the actual performance.

It’s a parent–child activity where you can enjoy communication from preparation through the main event, participating together using the mask you made as a team.

Dekapan Torch Relay

Footraces and relays are the star events of a school sports day.

Watching children run their hearts out is adorable on its own, but let’s add a creative twist to make the event even more exciting.

If there’s a race where kids run in pairs with friends or parents, prepare an oversized pair of pants that both can wear at once.

If the pair runs wearing a handmade jumbo pair of pants, it’s sure to become a crowd-pleasing highlight of the sports day.

It’s like a pants version of a three-legged race.

Let’s steal the show with laughter and applause as pairs synchronize their steps and run together in one big pair of pants.

Clothing change race

2018 Riorui and the Sports Day: Changing Clothes Race
Clothing change race

A dressing-up race where pants, T-shirts, and other clothes are placed along the course, and participants put on one item at a time as they run toward the finish.

From the start, they run and first put on pants, then a T-shirt, and finally socks, a hat, and so on.

At the finish line, a guardian will be waiting to help them put on the hat or socks, and then they can hold hands and run to the goal together.

It might be fun to add a twist at the end where the guardian also helps put on the socks or hat!

Go! Go! Summer

Tomobe Kindergarten Sports Day Event Description No. 4 “Go! Go! Summer”
Go! Go! Summer

This event is an obstacle course where you can experience activities associated with summer all at once.

First, while wearing a swim cap and an inner tube, you cross a taped “sea” that represents the ocean.

After crossing, you take off the inner tube, pick up a fishing rod, and catch a fish in your favorite color.

You then carry the fish to the finish line.

The fishing part in particular feels like a festival booth game, so children are sure to love it.

Also, by doing a seasonal activity like this, children can learn what kinds of things people do during this time of year, which is another reason it’s highly recommended.

Hoop diving

Hoop diving

A team-based parent-child event where parents and children line up alternately and pass through a hula hoop.

Everyone stays holding hands while stepping through the hoop and passing it to the next person, which makes it harder than it looks.

In particular, since adults are inevitably bigger than children, getting through the hoop without using your hands can be quite physically demanding.

Despite its simple rules, it’s a competition that both kids and adults can take seriously, and it’s one that spectators can enjoy and get excited about together with the participants.

The Hero’s Grand Adventure

Kids are sure to join in with excitement! Here’s an idea for a Brave Hero’s Grand Adventure.

In this event, parents and children work together to overcome activities like mats and balance beams, defeat a big monster, and then reach the finish line.

Using a crown or a cape as the baton helps create the right atmosphere—highly recommended! Adjust the number and type of activities based on your venue size, and try incorporating it into your sports day.
