Fun Parent-Child Games! A Collection of Ideas to Liven Up Your Nursery School Sports Day

We want to liven up the parent-child events at the sports day! Here are some fun ideas to answer that call.

From a torch relay to a pretend sushi shop, there are plenty of activities you can enjoy with the kids while feeling excited together.

By teaming up with friends and parents and taking on these challenges in sync, you’ll create a wonderful day full of lasting memories.

The rules are simple, so anyone can join, and every event is sure to fill the venue with smiles.

You can also adapt them to suit your school’s size and atmosphere, so please use these ideas as a reference.

Recommended parent-child competitions with a food theme (1–10)

Cute fisherman

Cute fisherman

A cute fisherman whose appearance running with a big net is sure to excite the crowd.

Parent and child hold the fish-catching net together and run to the spot where the fish are.

The guardian holds the net, the child catches the fish and puts them into the net, then they hold the net together again and run to the next spot.

The next spot is the fish wholesale market—here, unload the fish you caught and line them up on the platform.

After that, carry the now-empty net and head for the finish line.

You could also split teams by net color—red team and white team—and make it a parent-child relay for even more excitement!

Fruit-picking competition

Strawberry picking: a contest to see how many you can eat
Fruit-picking competition

This is a fruit-picking obstacle race.

You choose your favorite fruit, and the activity changes depending on what you pick—for example, you might cross a balance beam, crawl through a tunnel, or get lifted high.

Afterwards, you stick your fruit onto a tree the teacher is holding, and it’s fun to complete a tree full of fruit.

You can pick fruit based on the exercise you want to do, or choose your favorite fruit and then do the corresponding activity—either way, it will be an enjoyable obstacle race.

It can also be enjoyed as a parent-child event.

Soccer in big underpants

Soccer in big underpants

We’d like to introduce a fun “giant pants” soccer game that strengthens the parent-child bond.

The parent and child both get into the prepared oversized pants.

While kicking a soccer ball wrapped in a net together, aim for the goal and get the ball into the net.

After scoring, the guardian carries the ball back to the starting line.

Once you return, pass the ball to the next person like a relay.

The key is how smoothly the parent and child can put on the giant pants together.

Think of an easy way to wear them, and do your best to win!

Hey! Welcome!

Tomobe Kindergarten Sports Day Event Description No. 11: “Hey! Irasshai”
Hey! Welcome!

Kids transform into sushi! Here’s a fun “Hey! Welcome!” activity idea.

In this unique event, children pick their favorite sushi topping, wear it on their backs, and crawl through a tunnel shaped like a customer’s mouth to reach the goal.

Parents play the role of sushi chefs: hold or give a piggyback ride to their sushi-transformed kids and run the course toward the mouth-shaped tunnel.

The adorable sight of the kids is sure to liven up the venue! Don’t miss the chance to give it a try.

Mini triathlon

Mini triathlon

We’d like to introduce a parent-child event modeled after a triathlon.

This is a parent-child activity: first, transform into a rabbit and make a lively start by jumping! Next, jump over the big box in front of you and crawl through the tunnel made of streamer tape.

After you pass through, the guardian gives the child a piggyback ride, and once you grab the prize medal, you’re at the finish line! Feel free to customize the events leading up to the finish according to the children’s interests and attention.

For preschoolers, trying it solo is also recommended.

Uber Eats

Uber Eats

Hold hands with a guardian dressed up as an Uber Eats courier and deliver delicious food! No hill or staircase is too tough.

Be careful not to fall off the path and go pick up the ordered food.

You can carry it in a backpack, or deliver it as is.

Once you deliver the food, you’ve reached the goal.

If there’s someone at the goal to receive the food, you might be able to work even harder on your delivery.

Wishing you a fun and exciting sports day!

Let’s deliver flavors of the world!

Turn the recipe cards and start cooking! Bring flavors from around the world! Here’s an idea to try.

Sports Day is a special event that happens once a year.

How about competing while learning about the world? Let’s have parents and children work together to make dishes from around the globe as they overcome items like hurdles and balance beams.

Through pretend play, you can create happy memories of joining a fun event together—making American hamburgers, Japanese osechi, Italian pizza, British sandwiches, and more.
