Fun Parent-Child Games! A Collection of Ideas to Liven Up Your Nursery School Sports Day

We want to liven up the parent-child events at the sports day! Here are some fun ideas to answer that call.

From a torch relay to a pretend sushi shop, there are plenty of activities you can enjoy with the kids while feeling excited together.

By teaming up with friends and parents and taking on these challenges in sync, you’ll create a wonderful day full of lasting memories.

The rules are simple, so anyone can join, and every event is sure to fill the venue with smiles.

You can also adapt them to suit your school’s size and atmosphere, so please use these ideas as a reference.

Popular anime characters join the sports day events! These are fun sports day games that even small children can enjoy while playing.

First, in a footrace, choose a character face—like Anpan, Shokupan, or Melonpan—placed in the field.

Once you’ve picked a face, look for the house that has the same picture as the face you’re holding.

When you find the matching house, throw the face you’re holding through the window to clear the game.

You can, of course, use non-anime characters for the event as well.

Sushi Picnic

Original song – Susu – Susu

You won’t be able to take your eyes off the kids’ adorable antics! Here are some ideas for a sushi-themed picnic.

Many people struggle to come up with food-themed events, right? In those moments, we recommend a “Sushi Picnic” that blends humor with cuteness.

Prepare boards with illustrations of about four types of sushi, and at the starting signal, have the kids flip a board.

Once they see which sushi topping is shown, they put on a backpack matching that topping and race toward the goal together with their guardian! Give it a try at your event.

Fruit-picking competition

Strawberry picking: a contest to see how many you can eat
Fruit-picking competition

This is a fruit-picking obstacle race.

You choose your favorite fruit, and the activity changes depending on what you pick—for example, you might cross a balance beam, crawl through a tunnel, or get lifted high.

Afterwards, you stick your fruit onto a tree the teacher is holding, and it’s fun to complete a tree full of fruit.

You can pick fruit based on the exercise you want to do, or choose your favorite fruit and then do the corresponding activity—either way, it will be an enjoyable obstacle race.

It can also be enjoyed as a parent-child event.

Food-themed parent-child competition recommendations (11–20)

Uber Eats

Uber Eats

Hold hands with a guardian dressed up as an Uber Eats courier and deliver delicious food! No hill or staircase is too tough.

Be careful not to fall off the path and go pick up the ordered food.

You can carry it in a backpack, or deliver it as is.

Once you deliver the food, you’ve reached the goal.

If there’s someone at the goal to receive the food, you might be able to work even harder on your delivery.

Wishing you a fun and exciting sports day!

Mini triathlon

Mini triathlon

We’d like to introduce a parent-child event modeled after a triathlon.

This is a parent-child activity: first, transform into a rabbit and make a lively start by jumping! Next, jump over the big box in front of you and crawl through the tunnel made of streamer tape.

After you pass through, the guardian gives the child a piggyback ride, and once you grab the prize medal, you’re at the finish line! Feel free to customize the events leading up to the finish according to the children’s interests and attention.

For preschoolers, trying it solo is also recommended.

Swirly Mixed Juice

Swirly Mixed Juice

Let me introduce “Kurukuru Mixed Juice,” an activity that parents and babies can enjoy together.

Start by holding your child in your arms.

Spin around the pillar to mix the juice.

Then choose your favorite juice from the table, clink glasses with the teacher, and you’re at the goal! It could be even more exciting if you increase the number of laps around the pillar according to age.

Work together as a parent-child team to make a delicious mixed juice—good luck! Playing the “Mixed Juice” song as sports day background music sounds fun, too.

Freshly picked fruit

Freshly picked fruit

Recommended from infant to preschool classes! Here’s an idea called “Freshly Picked Fruit.” How about incorporating familiar fruits—seen every day at lunch, in picture books, and in pretend play—into a game? Prepare a banana tree, a mandarin orange tree, an apple tree, and animal props (an elephant, a monkey, and a rabbit) with holes for mouths.

At the start signal, each child picks one fruit from any tree and moves forward.

Next, they choose an animal and place the fruit they’re holding into its mouth—then they reach the goal! Give it a try in your class.
