[For Seniors] Let’s Start Fun Craft Activities (11–20)
Sunflowers at the mallNEW!

Let’s make sunflowers that give you energy with their sun-like vibrance and brighten up your room! First, fold yellow pipe cleaners into petal shapes about 4 cm long.
Make 10 of these with yellow pipe cleaners and 10 with green ones.
Also, using green pipe cleaners, make 8 more of the same shape, slightly smaller.
Fold a brown pipe cleaner into a small accordion, then wrap it tightly around a wire, and start assembling by attaching each part to form a sunflower.
Finally, spread the petals outward firmly to finish!
Snail in the mallNEW!

A pipe-cleaner snail is an easy and enjoyable craft.
Moving your fingers helps stimulate the brain and refresh your mood, and it’s fun to get absorbed in the activity.
First, make two eyestalks by wrapping the end of a pipe cleaner around a disposable chopstick to form eyeballs.
Twist two pipe cleaners together.
Wrap another pipe cleaner of a different color around a chopstick.
After removing the wrapped pipe cleaner from the chopstick, thread it onto the end of the twisted pipe cleaners.
For the snail’s spiral shell, wrap the end of the pipe cleaner around the chopstick to create a spiral.
Adjust the shape, decorate with eye stickers, and you’re done! It’s easy to join in, so give it a try!
Gerberas at the mallNEW!

Gerbera daisies bloom in a variety of vibrant colors.
Why not make some with chenille stems and brighten up your room? First, prepare seven stems of the same color, accordion-fold each one to create four peaks, and shape them into petals.
For the flower’s center, tightly coil another stem, then attach a circular stem around it.
After that, assemble each part into the shape of a flower to complete your gerbera.
You can also use wire to make the stem and leaves to create a single bloom.
Try making many and displaying them in a vase.
The Little Bear of the MallNEW!

Let’s try making a small bear using a long chenille stem (pipe cleaner).
Gradually bend and twist the stem, starting from the face.
Once the face is done, fold it about 2 centimeters down from the neck to make the arms.
After shaping both arms, fold the stem again to make the legs.
Watching it gradually take the shape of a bear seems like it would make the crafting process enjoyable for older adults as well.
It also encourages focused engagement with the project, doesn’t it? If you add a ribbon and eye parts, you’ll have an even cuter bear.
It would look nice attached to a bag or pouch.
Plump-scaled koinobori (carp streamer)NEW!

Why not make koi-shaped streamers with cute, plump scales to decorate your wall? Just hanging them in a senior facility or your own room will instantly brighten the atmosphere and let you feel the season anytime.
Use two sheets of colored construction paper to make the base of the koi streamer.
Add a slight curve to suggest it’s swimming.
Join the two pieces together and trim the tail into a triangle.
For the scales, cut origami paper into teardrop shapes, snip them slightly, and glue them on so they become three-dimensional.
Using multiple origami patterns makes them extra cute.
The more scales you add, the more impactful it will look, so why not work together during activity time to create them as a group?
Kintaro made with a Yakult containerNEW!

Kintaro, whose kindness and robust figure are depicted in folktales.
The Kintaro dolls displayed on Children’s Day are put up with the wish that children will grow up healthy and kind-hearted.
How about making such a Kintaro ornament using a familiar Yakult bottle? Cut a circle from thick paper the size of the Yakult opening and attach it to the mouth.
Stick double-sided tape on the bottle and wrap skin-colored yarn around and around.
Wrapping it carefully without gaps will give you a neat finish.
Wind black yarn around your hand to make the hair and topknot.
Make the belly apron from red felt and the axe from black felt, and add eyes with rhinestone stickers to complete it.
You might also make a carp streamer and display them together.

Carnations made of feltNEW!

Felt carnations have a warmth that comes from the material itself, don’t they? First, prepare four pieces of felt cut to 6.5 cm × 6.5 cm, and trim the edges into rounded zigzags.
Next, make cuts from the edge to divide it into 16 sections.
Do this for all four pieces.
Start by hooking a wire onto one piece of felt and fold it up tightly.
On the remaining three pieces, make a hole in the center and thread them onto the wire.
As you go, secure each felt piece with a hot glue gun.
Wrap floral tape around the wire, attach leaves made from green felt, and you’re done.
Try making them in various colors!
