Each member is currently active in a different band.
Vocalist/guitarist Takeshi Hosomi once lived in the United States, is fluent in English, and has many songs with English lyrics.
ELLEGARDEN announced a hiatus in 2008 to much regret, but they resumed activities in 2018!
With new releases and a return to live touring, they have been drawing renewed attention.
This time, we’re spotlighting their hits and classic tracks.
As a fan myself, I’ve carefully selected these songs.

ELLEGARDEN’s classic and popular songs (1–10)
Red HotELLEGARDEN

The title, of course, refers to the famous band Red Hot Chili Peppers.
It’s a play on words with the actual spice, red hot chili pepper.
I love the lyric, “Of course I’m going to look for a job today, so lend me some money for the bus for now,” because it’s so punk.
SalamanderELLEGARDEN

It’s an intense song that truly embodies the word “rock.” The vocal melody isn’t the usual style either; it has a distinctive line that sounds really cool.
Hosomi’s command of English shines through in his delivery, capturing the hearts of many listeners.
The music video, which makes great use of slow motion, is also awesome.
Gunpowder ValentineELLEGARDEN

Gunpowder Valentine is a track from ELEVEN FIRE CRACKERS, ELLEGARDEN’s fifth full-length album released in 2006.
The album came out when ELLEGARDEN’s popularity was at its peak, and for many, this record defines their youth.
It’s a hard-hitting song with a strong rock edge that really packs a punch.
ELLEGARDEN’s classic and popular songs (11–20)
MarieELLEGARDEN

Among Ellegarden’s songs, many feature the names of fictional characters, but this one is straightforwardly titled “Marie.” The lyric “All I can do is keep staying here” really hits me in the chest.
The B-melody lands with an unexpectedly cool, gritty vibe, so be sure to pay attention to that too.
Windy DayELLEGARDEN

The lyrics are amusing, and the song is very catchy.
Its live performances are captivating, getting the whole venue involved.
The meaning of the lyrics might be something like, “There are many things we get swept up in and can’t resist, but isn’t that what makes us human?” The guitar solo is a standout performance.
The Autumn SongELLEGARDEN

The song titled “Autumn Song” is rich with emotion.
Yet the feelings it expresses are more along the lines of “summer has come to an end,” perhaps.
Even when life is very fulfilling, the arrival of autumn brings a strange sense of melancholy.
In such times, what is needed at the very center of the heart—could it be, after all, music?
Middle Of NowhereELLEGARDEN

Among ELLEGARDEN’s songs, this one stands out as by far the darkest, but when you listen to it in times of emotional weakness, it truly feels like it reaches deep inside your heart.
It’s a song I want people to listen to and be saved by when they feel a hopelessness like being left behind in the middle of a wasteland.
The guitar solo is so cool it can only be described as a masterpiece performance.
