ELLEGARDEN's classic and popular songs
Each member is currently active in a different band.
Vocalist/guitarist Takeshi Hosomi once lived in the United States, is fluent in English, and has many songs with English lyrics.
ELLEGARDEN announced a hiatus in 2008 to much regret, but they resumed activities in 2018!
With new releases and a return to live touring, they have been drawing renewed attention.
This time, we’re spotlighting their hits and classic tracks.
As a fan myself, I’ve carefully selected these songs.
Tell me your favorites, too!
Enjoy!

ELLEGARDEN’s classic and popular songs (21–30)
Good nightELLEGARDEN

It’s included on the second mini-album, “My Own Destruction.” A song you’ll want to listen to at the end of a tiring day.
The wistful, tearful melody is sung gently and warmly.
The somewhat lonely, heartrending lyrics slowly seep into your heart.
Space SonicELLEGARDEN

Amid the intensity, this masterpiece exudes a sense of desperation and wistfulness.
There aren’t many bands that play with such sheer urgency.
The lyrics, which seem to satirize the way the world works, are heartbreakingly beautiful, and the music video—where the members try cross-dressing—is a must-watch.
LonesomeELLEGARDEN

The title apparently means “loneliness,” and true to that meaning, even among Ellegarden’s many melancholy songs, this one stands out as especially heartrending.
In the chorus the key suddenly rises, and as the band’s sound swells and saturates, it feels like tears are about to spill over.
It’s a song I want you to listen to while looking at the Japanese translation.
Make A WishELLEGARDEN

It’s a masterpiece that starts as a quiet, stripped-down song and then explodes in the latter half.
It was often played at the end of shows, and the excitement was something special.
If you’re a fan, the intro alone will get you.
What’s your wish? It can be something simple and easy to grant—just try wishing for it with all your heart! That’s the feeling it gives you.
Can You Feel Like I DoELLEGARDEN

It’s a song truly worthy of being called a classic ballad.
In pieces like this, Ubukata’s guitar solos carry a conviction that feels as if some spirit has possessed him.
Even when all you wish for is someone’s happiness, and you can’t even convey that feeling—lyrics like these make you wonder whether, in the end, they’ll understand how you feel.
The word “sunset” never appears directly, yet for some reason the song makes you feel the glow of evening skies.
New Year’s DayELLEGARDEN

At New Year’s, when we meet relatives, visit our parents’ home for the first time in a while, or see old friends from our hometown, we always end up telling “stories from the past,” don’t we? Maybe New Year’s is simply a time when people are inclined to look back.
This is a song I’d love for you to listen to on the car stereo while driving into the new year.
VenusELLEGARDEN

This song reflects Hosomi-san’s desire to live without being swayed by power, money, and the like, and to focus on what truly matters.
The lyrics pierce deeply.
At live shows, seeing Hosomi-san looking as if he’s crying almost makes me cry, too.
It’s a masterpiece.
