ELLEGARDEN's classic and popular songs

Each member is currently active in a different band.

Vocalist/guitarist Takeshi Hosomi once lived in the United States, is fluent in English, and has many songs with English lyrics.

ELLEGARDEN announced a hiatus in 2008 to much regret, but they resumed activities in 2018!

With new releases and a return to live touring, they have been drawing renewed attention.

This time, we’re spotlighting their hits and classic tracks.

As a fan myself, I’ve carefully selected these songs.

Tell me your favorites, too!

Enjoy!

This is the new opening song for the TV anime One Piece Egghead Arc, which began airing on August 10, 2025.

The average vocal range isn’t that high, but there’s a leap from D4 to B4 at the start of the chorus.

Once you get past that part, the rest of the melody sits comfortably, so I think it’s relatively easy to sing.

Since it has a rock sound, you’ll want to sing the high part of the chorus in chest voice.

The key to singing the leap cleanly is pitch stability.

If your placement changes between low and high notes, you may strain your throat and find it harder to sing.

Aim to center your intonation around the space between your eyebrows; try singing with the image of lifting your facial muscles and projecting the voice forward at all times.

That will also help you release tension, allowing your vocal cords to vibrate and your voice to come out more naturally!

“My Favorite Song” is the first track on their debut full album released in 2002.

It was also included on the greatest hits album released in 2008.

I bet many people would say this song is their own favorite song! It’s packed with the feeling of wanting to live doing what you love and not wanting to become an adult.

For those who were kids back then, it probably hits deep, doesn’t it?

It’s included on the mini-album “ELLEGARDEN,” which marks their indie debut.

Before that, the song had been sold by hand as a self-produced CD at live venues.

You can hear a slightly playful chorus performed by all the members.

It’s a song that really feels like summer.

Among ELLEGARDEN’s tracks, it’s one I especially want to hear at a summer festival.

I admire the lyrics that go like, “My phone’s ringing, but I don’t care—even though I know I’m a jerk.” It’s a song that makes me want to go surfing.

All you grown-ups know who “Santa Claus” is, right? Is it really only children who should get presents? Every once in a while, why not try giving a gift to someone special to you on a night when the kids are fast asleep? This song could be one of those gifts, too.

Marry MeELLEGARDEN

The title, of course, means “Please marry me,” but the song is far sadder than you’d ever imagine from that.

It portrays, with striking realism, the sad situation of a former classmate I once admired getting married—naturally not to me, but to the guy who was popular at school.

I can’t help wondering if it’s based on a true experience.

When it comes to ELLEGARDEN, people might strongly associate them with English lyrics, but in fact they have many great songs with Japanese lyrics as well.

The lyrics feel like the anxiety just before their hiatus and the mindset of having to go on stage regardless, which makes it all the more heartrending.
