ELLEGARDEN announced a hiatus in 2008 to much regret, but they resumed activities in 2018!
With new releases and a return to live touring, they have been drawing renewed attention.
This time, we’re spotlighting their hits and classic tracks.

ELLEGARDEN’s classic and popular songs (51–60)
New Year’s DayELLEGARDEN
Included as the B-side to ELLEGARDEN’s signature song “Jitterbug” on the single is “New Year’s Day.” It’s a track imbued with the message that “life ends in the blink of an eye,” depicting memories of a certain New Year’s Eve.
With ELLEGARDEN’s trademark powerful punk sound, it’s definitely a number you can rock out to.
The band has fans across a wide range of ages, making it a perfect choice for karaoke!
InsaneELLEGARDEN
This is a rare acoustic ballad for ELLE, who usually have many rock numbers.
Since arpeggio playing is the main focus, it’s a song I’d definitely like beginners to try.
Also, the way you feel the rhythm is a bit different from what many people are used to, so please pay close attention to that as you practice.
If you can play this song without difficulty, you should be able to call yourself an intermediate player.
Mountain TopELLEGARDEN
A four-piece rock band that influenced countless other bands in their first decade and has continued to enjoy overwhelming support since their return, ELLEGARDEN released this digital-only single in 2022.
It was a lead track ahead of their sixth album and, as the band’s first new song in 16 years, became a major talking point.
The arrangement delivers both the sound fans expect from ELLEGARDEN and a sense of evolution, and together with its lyrical melody, it’s the kind of track that boosts your spirits just by listening.
It’s also great to sing at karaoke—a number that embodies the timeless cool of rock.
Strawberry MargaritaELLEGARDEN
“Strawberry Margarita,” a track included on their sixth album The End of Yesterday—their first album in about 16 years counting from before their hiatus—kicks off with a tension-raising intro that features a hefty yet textured guitar sound.
The all-English lyrics and brisk tempo feel challenging in true ELLEGARDEN fashion, but the melody itself has a narrow range and little inflection, making it quite approachable for karaoke.
It’s a refreshing, high-energy tune whose wistful melody feels great to sing.
ELLEGARDEN’s classic and popular songs (61–70)
WinterELLEGARDEN
ELLEGARDEN, affectionately known as Ellegarden or Ellegarden (Elre), broke roughly a decade of silence to restart in 2018.
Among their songs are ones that perfectly fit each of the four seasons, and, as the title suggests, “Winter” is a track I highly recommend for the wintertime.
The crisp, dry drum sound really captures a winter vibe.
The moment when the rhythm shifts into the chorus is irresistibly powerful.
Their other winter song, “Santa Claus,” is also essential for any winter playlist, so be sure to give it a listen!
Jitter pugELLEGARDEN
ELLEGARDEN, a band that’s been loved for years under the nickname “Ellegar,” has a signature song called “Jitterbug,” which is hailed as a classic that left its mark on Japan’s punk rock scene.
Its simple, straightforward structure makes it instantly catchy and easy to remember.
It’s also popular among cover bands and has influenced a wide range of artists.
Lost & FoundELLEGARDEN
ELLEGARDEN, which left an indelible mark on Japan’s rock scene since the 2000s, went on hiatus in 2008 and was spoken of as a near-legendary presence.
In 2018, however, they resumed activity, delighting both longtime fans and younger music lovers who became fans during the hiatus.
On December 21, 2022, they drew attention again with the release of their long-awaited new album, The End of Yesterday, their first in about 16 years.
Their first-ever documentary film, ELLEGARDEN: Lost & Found, has been streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video since November 25, 2022.
It’s packed with valuable footage, including the background leading up to their return, remarkably candid and in-depth content, and heartfelt interviews from other prominent artists about their love for ELLEGARDEN.
For fans, it’s unquestionably a must-see!
