ELLEGARDEN's classic and popular songs
Each member is currently active in a different band.
Vocalist/guitarist Takeshi Hosomi once lived in the United States, is fluent in English, and has many songs with English lyrics.
ELLEGARDEN announced a hiatus in 2008 to much regret, but they resumed activities in 2018!
With new releases and a return to live touring, they have been drawing renewed attention.
This time, we’re spotlighting their hits and classic tracks.
As a fan myself, I’ve carefully selected these songs.
Tell me your favorites, too!
Enjoy!

ELLEGARDEN’s classic and popular songs (31–40)
right handELLEGARDEN

It is included on their second mini album, “My Own Destruction.” Akiko Yano, a singer who is close friends with vocalist/guitarist Takeshi Hosomi, has covered the song in live performances and on an album.
It is an emotional, melodious early masterpiece by ELLEGARDEN.
TV ManiacsELLEGARDEN

ELLEGARDEN is a four-piece rock band that has had a huge influence on rock bands in the J-POP scene since the 2000s and continues to stay at the forefront.
“TV Maniacs,” included on their fourth album RIOT ON THE GRILL, gets your adrenaline pumping with its straightforward rock sound that kicks off with a powerful guitar riff.
The tempo is quite fast, and the drums in particular can make or break the overall quality of the track depending on whether the beat remains steady to the end, so take care.
Also, since the lyrics are entirely in English, vocalists should thoroughly learn the song before band practice so they can keep up with the ensemble.
Mr. FeatherELLEGARDEN

It is included on the fifth single, “Space Sonic.” The song is striking for its melancholy-tinged melody and thought-provoking lyrics.
The emotional swell of the chorus from a quiet beginning further accentuates the song’s poignancy.
AshELLEGARDEN

This is “Ash,” included on ELEVEN FIRE CRACKERS, their last album before going on hiatus, released in 2006.
Many of ELLEGARDEN’s songs convey a sense of struggle and anguish, and this one is no exception.
Still, it’s a brighter, rock-leaning track—it isn’t gloomy, nor is it wildly high-energy in a way that cheers you on.
Instead, it’s a song that gently stays by the side of someone who’s feeling lost.
MoonELLEGARDEN

“Moon” is included on their first full-length album released in 2002.
Many of Ellegarden’s songs from this period have melodies and lyrics that are a bit romantic in a heart-fluttering way.
I think the first album especially has a lot of that.
The lyrics are entirely in Japanese, and I also like that it doesn’t get too mellow.
It has a light touch, yet it’s unmistakably a love song.

Funny BunnyELLEGARDEN

This is “Funny Bunny,” included on the pillows’ tribute album Synchronized Rockers.
Since it’s a tribute album, it’s not an ELLEGARDEN song but a cover of the pillows.
I always feel tribute albums pick songs that truly suit the artists or bands covering them, and this is no exception—it fits so well that you could almost mistake it for an ELLEGARDEN original.
Lost WorldELLEGARDEN
This is “Lost World,” included on ELLEGARDEN’s third album, “Pepperoni Quattro,” released in 2004.
One of ELLE’s appeals is how their Japanese lyrics strike you right in the heart—there are many kids and fans who were drawn in by that.
This song is exactly one of those: it slips gently into the hearts of people struggling with something and really hits home.
It can make you feel a bit more positive.
