penguin

Penguins are popular not only with girls, but also with children and adults.
Penguin-themed goods and picture books are also popular.
Let’s try folding an origami penguin.
Since it’s made from a single sheet of origami paper, the white back side is important too.
Start by making the crease lines, then fold.
Fold with the colored side facing up, and then flip it over.
The white side will become the beak and belly.
Color the beak yellow and draw the eyes to finish.
By changing the folding method, you can also make a penguin with its feet lifted, so try out different variations.
wind chime

Let’s make wind chimes, a classic symbol of summer, to bring a cool breeze to the hot season! Prepare two sheets of origami paper.
Fold one sheet into a square twice, then cut it with scissors so that it forms a leaf-like shape.
When you unfold it, it will look like a flower with four petals.
Attach two strings there—one for hanging and one to connect the paper strip—and gently gather the petal-like parts toward the center to give it a three-dimensional shape.
Cut the second sheet of origami in half.
Fold one of those halves in two, place the string that’s connected to the top of the wind chime inside, and glue it together to finish! Have fun making it with chic Japanese-patterned origami or paper featuring your favorite characters.

chocolate

Line up little square chocolates made from origami inside a matching origami box, and you get an adorable piece that looks just like a gift.
Fill it not only with brown chocolates but also with pink, white, and yellow ones to make it visually vibrant and double the fun of making.
Each piece uses a simple folding method, so as you create them little by little, you can enjoy it with a collector’s mindset—that’s part of the charm.
It’s fun to display and to play with, and if you work on it together as a parent and child, it’ll feel like running your very own chocolate shop.
You can’t eat them, but these origami sweets are a delight to look at.
A long-tailed tit that can stand up or be displayed as a decoration

In winter, the long-tailed tit (Shima-enaga) becomes covered in pure white feathers, transforming into a plump and adorable figure.
Using a single sheet of black origami, you can make a stand-up type Shima-enaga—let’s give it a try! First, crease diagonally and vertically to make an X.
Fold it into a square as if tucking everything inward so it becomes about one-quarter of the original size.
On one side, fold in the surrounding paper so that the surface turns black.
Also make a tail on the black side so it can stand.
After folding in half, create a long, thin crease to mark the boundary between the face and the body.
Fold back the bottom and both ends of the white side to form the wings and feet, and you’re done! Draw the Shima-enaga’s face with a pen or add stickers to complete it.
gum

Cut the origami paper in half and fold it while shaping it, and you’ll end up with a piece of gum that looks just like the real thing, wrapped in paper.
If you draw your favorite illustrations or designs on the wrapper with a pen, it gives it an original touch and makes it even more fun.
You can even make a special case from another sheet of origami, put the gum inside, and it will look just like the real deal! If you add a twist so that the inside turns into a notepad when you open the gum, you can play while writing notes or leaving messages, making it enjoyable for both kids and adults.
It’s an origami “sweet” you can make with simple materials, and with a little creativity, the ways to play expand dramatically.
Pochacco

Let’s make a cute character! Here are some ideas for Pochacco.
Speaking of “Pochacco,” he’s a long-loved Sanrio character.
With his big black ears and adorable beady eyes, Pochacco is irresistibly cute.
This time, let’s try making Pochacco with origami.
You’ll need one sheet of white origami paper, two quarter-size pieces of black origami paper, glue or double-sided tape, and a pen.
It’s fun how Pochacco’s expression changes depending on the angle of his ears, isn’t it?
Cat message card

Here’s an idea for a cat-themed message card where you can write a short note and give it as a gift.
You only need one sheet of origami paper, so please prepare one with a white back side.
As long as you make firm creases at the beginning, the steps aren’t too difficult.
Fold carefully, following each step in order.
Once you’ve folded the cat, draw its face before writing your message.
You can use a pen, or you could use store-bought eye stickers—either way, it will look cute!
