Started working as a music writer as a side job while employed at a record shop, and for over 18 years I’ve contributed to music magazines, disc guide books, mooks, and web media. When you come across the music genre “hard rock,” what bands do you picture?

By definition, it evolved from styles like blues rock, introducing—as the name suggests—hard-edged guitars, and it reached its peak in the 1970s.

Even so, many different types of bands today continue to develop their sound while showing the influence of hard rock.
