In recent years, the number of male artists with high-tone voices has increased significantly.

Some naturally have high voices, while many others use techniques like mixed voice and belting to hit high notes.

This time, we’ll introduce a wide range of karaoke songs recommended for people with high voices!

Of course, they’re great for men with naturally high voices, but also for those who want to be able to sing in the higher range or practice their mixed voice.

These tracks are perfect as practice songs, too!

Why not use the songs we introduce as a reference and belt out high-tone vocals at karaoke to your heart’s content?

A bird that cannot flyyuzu

Yuzu “Tobenai Tori” MUSIC VIDEO
A bird that cannot flyyuzu

This song is one where Yuzu’s Iwasawa takes the lead vocals, and it’s quite high-pitched.

The A section sits low and is sung almost like spoken word, so it’s relatively easy and calm, but the pitch shoots up right at the start of the B section.

The highest note is C#5 in the chorus, and there are lots of long sustained notes, so it can be tough unless you’re constantly resonating in the head.

For reference, my student also struggled quite a bit from the B section, but once they worked on a head voice that resonates up top, they were able to sing the whole song.

Because it’s a high song, you might focus only on the high notes, but the surprising pitfall is actually the low parts.

It’s easy for the pitch to sag and turn into a throaty sound, so keep your eyebrows raised even as the melody changes—just like Iwasawa does—when you sing.

Aim for Iwasawa’s crystal-clear voice!

Zukai is a band that’s drawing particular attention in Japan’s indie rock scene.

They’re a group rooted in authentic indie rock, and their well-defined sound has earned them a devoted core following.

Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is “A Letter to Me.” It may sound high at first, but the actual vocal range is quite narrow, and it doesn’t require foundational techniques like vibrato or falls.

If you’re aiming for a perfect score, definitely add it to your repertoire.

The song “Ore-iro Sky,” included on the indie-era album RADWIMPS 2: Hatten Tojo, is a well-known classic among fans and a staple at live shows.

Just from the title, it might sound like a confidence-filled track, but its lyrics poetically capture the emotional swells of adolescence with a tender sensitivity, and it’s also known for being a song the audience helps complete by singing along at concerts.

Since it’s the kind of song packed with rapid-fire lyrics, be mindful of your breathing as you sing.

If possible, ask friends to join in on the chorus—singing it with multiple voices will make it even more exciting!

To be honest, I didn’t know this band, so I did some research to write this article and listened to their music for the first time—and wow, what a distinctive and fascinating band… or rather, songs! The vocals, sung entirely in falsetto, are especially striking.

In the recordings, beyond the falsetto itself, it also sounds like they’re actively using some corrective effects to process the voice, but a vocal performance that commits so thoroughly to falsetto can only be described as impressive.

It’s surprisingly hard to pull off, so if any guys out there are confident in their high range, definitely give it a try at karaoke!

MAZZEL is one of the groups supporting Japan’s current boy group boom.

Among their works—renowned for performances that rival K-pop—my top recommendation is J.O.K.E.R.

The chorus features falsetto throughout.

It’s not just about hitting high notes; the rapid, repeated switches between chest voice and falsetto make it exceptionally challenging.

Breath control is also crucial, so if you can sing this song with ease, your vocal ability is at a professional level.

A track from Mrs.

GREEN APPLE’s mini-album “Unity,” released in July 2022.

It was made available for digital pre-release in May of the same year, ahead of the album.

Motoki Omori, who serves as the vocalist of Mrs.

GREEN APPLE, has a singing voice rich in highly appealing higher overtones, and that voice truly shines in this song as well.

In addition to his naturally bright, high register, he skillfully switches among various high-tone vocal styles to deliver a superb interpretation of the track.

It’s a song I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who loves high-register male vocals.

I also think it’s a very useful reference piece for those aspiring to be singers.

A track from Novelbright’s 1st mini album “SKYWALK,” which was released in October 2018.

It was used as an insert song in AbemaTV’s drama “Koisuru Weekend Homestay 2020 Spring.” From the very beginning, vocalist Yudai Takenaka’s piercing high-tone voice bursts out, and that alone is irresistible for anyone who loves male vocalists with soaring high notes.

From what sounds like a natural, unstrained high register to a powerful falsetto, the song lets you fully savor his voice throughout.

If you sing it at karaoke, please be careful not to push yourself and strain your throat.
