A masterpiece with exhilarating high notes. An enchanting high-tone voice.

Even when we simply say “high-tone voice,” there are many ways to express it—from piercing high notes sung in chest voice, to a softer, more mature high tone that effectively uses mixed voice or falsetto.

In this topic, we’ve gathered a wide variety of songs that showcase the appeal of different high-tone voices, ranging from the latest trending tracks to timeless classics.

High-tone vocals are pleasant to listen to on their own, but once you can comfortably sing high notes yourself, you’ll discover even more ways to enjoy these songs.

We hope this can serve as practice material and a point of reference for those who want to learn how to sing in higher registers.

Leo Ieiri - "Mikansei" (Full Ver.)
unfinishedieiri reo

Leo Ieiri’s 16th single, released in January 2020.

A song written specifically for Fuji TV’s Monday 9 p.m.

drama “Absolute Zero: Pre-Crime Investigation.” This track lets you fully enjoy Ieiri’s acclaimed high-tone voice, rich in upper overtones.

The way she skillfully switches between chest voice and falsetto at the start of the chorus melody is truly noteworthy.

For aspiring high-tone singers, even just copying this part would make for very effective training!

RADWIMPS – Setsuna Rensa [Official Music Video]
SetsunarensaRADWIMPS

Released in November 2006 as RADWIMPS’ fifth major-label single.

It’s quite an interesting track: it shifts from a slightly heavy arrangement and a rapid-fire English rap at the very beginning to a chorus with a slow, floating melody centered on falsetto.

I think conveying that airy, floating vocal feel is really difficult! I don’t know whether it was the band’s idea or the producer’s direction, but this song’s development—which in a sense feels cheeky—ends up being so refreshing to listen to! (lol)

Yellow Yellow HappyChiaki

This is the song “YELLOW YELLOW HAPPY” by Pocket Biscuits, a band formed for a TV show project by talent Chiaki and comedians Teruyoshi Uchimura and Udo Suzuki.

It was released in 1997 and included on the album “Colorful.” It’s such a good song that it’s hard to believe it came from a TV project! Pay special attention to Chiaki’s vocals—her high notes are wonderfully resonant!

chameleonKing Gnu

This is King Gnu’s fifth CD single, released on March 16, 2022.

It was selected as the theme song for Fuji TV’s Monday 9 p.m.

drama “Mystery to Iu Nakare.” From the very beginning, the song is a gentle ballad featuring a beautiful falsetto that softly resonates.

If you like warm, high male vocals, this is a track I wholeheartedly recommend.

Listening closely to the vocal parts throughout, you’ll notice that even when the phrase is the same, the singing employs various vocal techniques—such as falsetto and mixed voice—depending on the song’s progression and scenes, allowing you to feel Mr.

Iguchi’s exceptional vocal skill and expressive ability.

Mephistojoōbachi

QUEEN BEE “Mephisto” Official MV
Mephistojoōbachi

Queen Bee is a band that offers a musicality unlike other Japanese rock acts, with original melodies and lyrics.

Their vocalist, Avu-chan, excels at high tones, and when it comes to falsetto, she’s among the very best in Japan.

A track where you can savor her falsetto is Mephisto.

While the verses and pre-chorus sit fairly low, the true appeal of the song lies in the chorus.

It suddenly leaps into a high falsetto, and it feels absolutely incredible to hear.

The song’s depth is also outstanding, so be sure to check it out.

Kana Nishino’s 27th single, released in September 2015.

It was also the theme song for the film “No Longer Heroine.” While Kana Nishino isn’t a powerhouse singer known for superhuman high notes, her bright voice—rich in high-frequency tones—makes listening feel really fun.

Combined with the lyrics, it’s probably become a staple wedding song.

It’s a track that lifts your mood without making you think too hard! If you sing it, just be careful not to make it sound heavy, and you’ll be fine!

One of my students once practiced “Stellar Stellar,” but this time, “Mou Dounatte mo Ii ya” has a completely different vibe—it’s a cool-style anime song.

Listening through the whole track, it has an overall sense of speed with lots of fast lyrics, so keeping the rhythm is very important.

Since it’s such a fast song and the pitch goes up to D5, the key is to avoid straining your voice.

It might help to sing with a relaxed approach, using a strong head voice.
