[Childcare] Butterfly Craft Ideas (41–50)
Puchi-puchi butterfly
When spring comes, don’t you find butterflies more often even in the kindergarten yard? Let’s make butterflies that herald spring using bubble wrap as cushioning material! We’ll use bubble wrap to create the butterfly wings.
Cut the bubble wrap into a rectangle and draw butterfly patterns on it with a permanent marker.
It’s easier to draw on the flat back side rather than the bumpy side.
Pinch and tightly tie the center with a chenille stem (pipe cleaner), then make the butterfly’s body and face with colored construction paper and stick them on to finish.
Try making the antennae with a chenille stem as well.
Butterflies with decalcomania
Decalcomania is a painting technique in which paint is transferred.
Cut drawing paper into the shape of a butterfly and fold it in half, then apply paint to one inside half.
Using thicker paint, add various patterns such as dots and lines.
Fold it closed again, and you’ll get a mysterious, perfectly symmetrical pattern! If you attach wrapping chenille stems as antennae, the butterfly is complete.
When children see these intriguingly patterned butterflies, some may say, “I want to make one too!” and become interested.
Butterfly straw decoration
You often see origami that isn’t made of paper, right? This material was originally developed to make it easy to fold polyester sheets, which didn’t fold well before.
It has transparency and a glossy finish, and it’s water-resistant.
Let’s use it to make decorations for straws.
They’re handy at parties as markers so you don’t mix up your drink with someone else’s.
Stack two quarter-size sheets of origami, fold them in half, cut out a butterfly shape, then make a slit along the center line for the straw to pass through—and you’re done.
