I’m Hiyoko-sensei, a former nursery school teacher from Hyogo Prefecture. Ever since I was five, my dream was to become a childcare worker, and before I knew it, 20 years had passed since I achieved that dream. The time I spent happily with children—playing piano, singing songs, and doing finger-play—are priceless memories to me. In April, many people think of bunnies and eggs because of Easter events.

Easter, also known as the Resurrection Festival, is a Christian holiday that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

That’s why eggs, symbols of vitality, and rabbits, known for their strong powers of fertility, are used as Easter motifs.

This time, we’re sharing ideas for wall decorations to brighten up your Easter festivities.

From origami and construction paper to creations using fun techniques, these ideas are packed with ways to spark children’s curiosity!

Fold-Only Tulip

Let me introduce an easy “fold-only” tulip that also works as a three-dimensional wall decoration.

Prepare patterned origami paper, construction paper, crayons, glue, and scissors.

Cut the construction paper into circles in pairs and fold each circle in half.

By using construction paper in different colors, you can enjoy variations in the tulip’s flower color.

Glue the tulip’s center piece cut from the patterned origami together with the pair of folded petals, and your tulip flower is complete.

Draw leaves with crayons to create a springlike tulip!

All you need is origami paper in your favorite colors and some pens or colored pencils.

When an eggshell cracks, the edges turn zigzag, right? This idea cleverly expresses that feature with origami.

The rounded shape is so cute! Let me share an idea for making an Easter bunny with origami.

All you need are origami paper, white round stickers, pens or colored pencils, and decorations like ribbon.

It’s an adorable Easter bunny, and the best part is you can make it with just one sheet of origami paper! The key features are the plump, egg-like body and the perky, long ears, so be sure to make crisp folds as you go.

Once it’s finished, attach the little white round-sticker hands and draw the facial expression!

How about making the Easter bunny, a character from the spring holiday, out of origami? After folding the paper into a triangle twice, open the pockets on both sides and flatten it into a square.

Place it with the flaps at the top, then fold the top corner down to the bottom corner.

Flip it over and do the same—doesn’t it start to look like a bunny? The two triangles become the ears, so fold them in toward the center line on the left and right.

Shape the chin and ears to complete the face.

The body is a bit more complex to fold, so please work on it together with an adult or teacher.

Once you glue the face and body together, your cute bunny is complete!

How about decorating the room with characters your children love? You can use characters from anime or games as materials, and if your school prohibits character use, you can make them with animals or picture books the children like! Once you’ve chosen the materials, print them out on a computer.

Also make one reversed copy, then glue the front and back together.

Laminate the finished pieces, cut them out, and punch a hole so you can attach a string.

Try decorating them like a mobile using tree branches the children found in the yard or during outdoor activities.

Swaying gently in the pleasant spring breeze, they look absolutely lovely.
