galaxy jar

It’s a craft that compresses outer space into a tight little bottle—full of romance and wonder! It’s perfect for time at home, and not only kids but their caregivers will likely find themselves totally absorbed.
Since children will be handling it, use a plastic bottle instead of a glass one for safety.
Pack as much craft cotton as you can into the bottle, then pour in water.
Next, load the tip of a brush with your favorite watercolor paint and, as if poking into the gaps in the cotton, move the brush side to side to add color.
If you mix too many colors it can get muddy, so we recommend blending about two colors.
Adding glitter or star-shaped sequins makes it look even more magical!
Marble-rolling game made with 100-yen shop items

How about making a marble-rolling game like pinball or smart ball using 100-yen shop items? First, prepare a thick document file (the kind used for storing papers) and cut a piece of cardboard to the same size to use as the base.
Paste construction paper on it, then cut out faces of your favorite animals or characters from more construction paper and stick them on.
Punch a hole where the animal’s or character’s mouth is, create a starting point, and slide it into the file—done! Instead of animals or characters, you can also make ramps so the marble slides down, which is highly recommended.
It’s portable, so it’s great as a time-killer for kids when you’re out and about.
Cardboard crane game

This is a craft project that recreates an arcade claw machine out of cardboard—something that excites both adults and kids.
Best of all, the claw is realistic and can actually grab objects, so you can enjoy playing the game even after you’ve built it! You’ll make the main frame, the mechanism for operating the claw, the claw itself, the mechanism for opening and closing the claw, and the base of the main unit in that order.
Since the claw’s arms are designed to really move, that part may take a bit of extra effort.
It’s efficient to split up the steps between parent and child, so definitely give it a try!
Puni-puni handmade stickers

Kids just love stickers, don’t they? They’re especially drawn to ones with a squishy, unique texture.
Here’s a simple, squishy handmade sticker craft that even small children can enjoy.
It uses the property of wood glue that turns transparent when it dries.
Fix a clear card case or a plastic desk pad to the table, draw a motif with a water-based pen, and trace over it with glue before the ink dries.
You can also prepare a draft motif beforehand and have your child trace over it to make their own! Let it dry for about a day and your sticker is ready.
After it’s done, you can peel it off and have fun playing with the stickers—give it a try!
A three-step chopstick rubber-band gun

This is a chopstick rubber-band gun that you can make with a simple procedure: use chopsticks as the base and attach a clothespin with a rubber band.
Insert the metal part of the clothespin into the gap between the chopsticks, then secure the clothespin in that position with a rubber band.
After that, to keep the chopsticks from spreading apart, wrap a rubber band around the tips of the chopsticks, and it’s done.
The mechanism is that you launch a rubber band stretched from the tip by opening and closing the clothespin.
The appeal is that you can make a chopstick rubber-band gun easily with only a few materials.
Bow and arrow made from a toilet paper roll core

Let’s make a bow and arrow out of a toilet paper roll! You’ll need: a toilet paper roll, one thick straw and two thin straws, a cotton swab, rubber bands, an awl, a small piece of construction paper, a pencil, cellophane tape, and scissors.
Use the awl to make holes in the toilet paper roll, insert the thick straw, and create openings for the bow.
Attach rubber bands to make the bowstring you’ll pull.
For the arrow, attach a halved cotton swab to a thin straw.
Insert the thin straw with the cotton swab into the thick straw, pull back the rubber band, and the straw will shoot out like an arrow!
Piggy bank ghost made from cardboard

Let’s make a realistic mechanical piggy bank using cardboard! You’ll need thick cardboard, rubber bands, a hot glue gun, and more.
When using a hot glue gun, be careful not to get burned and use it with an adult.
By using a gear mechanism, you can create a ghost piggy bank that swallows coins when you turn the handle.
You can also change the decorations to make it something other than a ghost, so feel free to get creative!
