Songs by male artists known for their captivating deep voices. Classic Japanese hits and recommended popular tracks.
These days, male vocalists with high tones are especially popular, and it feels like we hear fewer songs sung with deep, rugged low voices.
Still, that resonant low register that echoes to the core is something many men aspire to, and I suspect plenty of women also find themselves saying, “I get chills from a smoky, masculine singing voice!”
When a male artist known for his striking low notes sings from a woman’s perspective, it can actually highlight feminine allure and sound even more captivating.
This time, we’ve gathered classic tracks by male artists whose irresistibly rich low vocals steal the show.
Go ahead and lose yourself in these stylish, moody low voices.

selfish; self-centered; willfulUeda Masaki

When it comes to Masaki Ueda, many people probably think of “Kanashii Iro Yane.” Of course, that song is wonderful, but this track, “Wagamama,” is also essential for appreciating his low-register voice.
It’s a ballad-leaning song crafted with a sweet yet heartrending melody.
Although the lyrics are from a woman’s perspective, Ueda’s deep voice somehow matches them perfectly.
It’s a male voice that still feels feminine.
This intriguing experience makes the song undoubtedly a classic in Japan’s soul music scene.
Endless JourneyMr.Children

This is Mr.Children’s 15th single, released in October 1998.
Mr.Children’s vocalist, Mr.
Sakurai, is a singer who showcases a very compelling low register.
While this likely owes a lot to his natural vocal timbre, his convincing low-range singing is truly excellent.
It’s a track where you can fully appreciate that appeal, especially in the A-melody sections centered on the lower range.
The contrast with the powerful, high-tone chorus further accentuates his charm.
JUST BECAUSETHE JAYWALK

From catchy tunes to moving masterpieces, J-WALK is a band that energized Japan’s music scene with a wide range of styles.
Although the group is no longer active due to a scandal, former vocalist Koichi Nakamura’s deep voice and exceptional singing ability continue to command respect in the Japanese music world.
Among J-WALK’s songs, one I especially recommend is “JUST BECAUSE.” With a vocal line that encapsulates the appeal of a male vocalist, it lets you savor a passionate low register throughout.
Be sure to give it a listen.
VanillaGACKT

This was GACKT’s second single overall, released in August 1999.
It was used as the song for the “Takano Yuri Beauty Clinic” commercial.
GACKT, who sings this, is a vocalist known for his deeply resonant low voice.
I feel that this rich, low register enhances the allure of his slightly mysterious, unisex image.
That low voice shines throughout this track as well, especially in the A-melody sections, and it contrasts beautifully with the slightly delicate falsetto used in the higher notes of the chorus, successfully adding greater expressiveness to the song.
Let’s dance at homeHoshino Gen

This is a song that Gen Hoshino announced on his Instagram account in April 2020, which became a big topic of conversation.
The track is very short, and it’s a very simple piece in which nearly the same phrase is repeated, but Hoshino’s unadorned, rawly mixed low-register vocals are used to striking effect.
As mentioned, it’s a bit of an unusual work in that it isn’t an official release, but it might not be a bad idea to enjoy something like this once in a while.
Seriously, sayonara baby.Vaundy

“Majide, Sayonara Baby” by Vaundy is a track that was pre-released on Apple Music on May 9, 2025.
The vocal range spans C3 to G5, which is relatively wide, but most of the notes used aren’t very high, so I think it’s easier to sing for lower-voiced singers.
That said, early in the first chorus there’s a spot where the pitch jumps up, but it’s fine to use falsetto there, so no need to brace yourself! The song is basically sung in a relaxed, gentle manner, so try to keep your overall delivery loose and easy.
Inheritance of SinGACKT

This is GACKT’s 48th single, released in March 2017.
It was used as the ending theme for the UHF anime block, Anime no Me, “TRICKSTER: From Edogawa Rampo’s ‘The Boy Detectives Club.’” There’s no need for me to explain GACKT’s deep, rugged, and commanding low voice—you’re all well aware of it.
In this song too, his captivating low vocals are showcased to the fullest.
The luxurious backing sound design further enhances his performance.
