You’re My Only Shinin’ StarKadamatsu Toshiki

Originally, this song was written by Toshiki Kadomatsu for Miho Nakayama, and what I’m introducing here is his self-cover version in which Kadomatsu himself sings it.
It was released on November 25, 1999.
Kadomatsu is known to be very strict about singing and possesses a very high level of vocal ability himself, but perhaps because the piece was written for Miho Nakayama, who was something of an idol at the time, it’s built around a very familiar, easy-to-hum melody.
Since the version provided to Nakayama was released in 1988, the song faintly carries the “bubble era” vibe of those days.
I think it’s one of the best choices as practice material for people who have been reluctant to sing until now.
The section at the end that becomes almost a cappella may be difficult to sing, but please give it a try!
Team friendsChiba Yūki

These days, I think more people are singing hip-hop at karaoke.
So here’s a track I recommend: “Team Friends.” It’s a song released by KOHH—the artist who helped build Japan’s trap scene—under his real name, Yuki Chiba.
It showcases his signature slow, gritty flow.
While a lot of recent trap leans toward technical prowess and the flows can be relatively easy to grasp, this track is somewhat comedic, making its flow especially easy to catch.
SubaruTanimura Shinji

This single by Shinji Tanimura was released in April 1980, when Alice—the group he belonged to—was at the height of its popularity.
It was also used in a commercial song for Nikka Whisky’s Super Nikka, and became a massive hit, marking his best-selling solo single.
The song belongs to the so-called “New Music” genre that was booming at the time; many songs from that era have simple melodies and very straightforward lyric phrasing, making them a treasure trove of karaoke-friendly tunes.
In particular, this track is very easy to sing tempo-wise, and the vocal melody doesn’t cover a very wide range, so it should be approachable for just about anyone.
If you pay attention to creating a clear contrast between the whisper-like passages and the powerful sections, it will sound even better.
Study the original carefully and give it a try!
Wonder WorldRhythmic Toy World

Rhythmic Toy World is a band that has been active on the front lines of Japan’s rock scene for over a decade.
Their sound blends alternative rock with catchy, J-pop-like elements, and they’ve produced numerous standout tracks over the years.
Among their songs, the one I especially recommend is Wonder World.
While it does feature some falsetto parts, they aren’t particularly difficult.
Since the overall range isn’t very wide, anyone should be able to sing it if they choose an appropriate key.
In this noisy, beloved worldMakihara Noriyuki

Singer-songwriter Noriyuki Makihara, who had great success in the 1990s and 2000s.
Although he has not been active in the public eye since his arrest in 2018, he still releases songs consistently, and continues to attract steady popularity with his unchanging musical style.
Among his works, the one I particularly recommend is “Urusakute Itoshii Kono Sekai ni” (“To This Noisy, Beloved World”).
Brimming with what fans call his signature “Makihara touch,” this piece is an easy-to-sing pop song from start to finish.
The vocal range isn’t wide, so give it a try.
alcoholKubota Kai

Singer-songwriter Kai Kubota, whose catchy musical style has earned popularity among teens of all genders.
Although he’s a singer-songwriter, his style leans closer to a rapper’s, and rap appears frequently in his tracks.
Among his songs, the one I especially recommend for men as an easy piece to sing is Alcohol.
The track has a languid, ennui-tinged mood and a straightforward vocal line.
There’s a touch of falsetto, but the range isn’t wide, and the rap flow is simple—so give it a try.
LOVE (I want to hold you)sawada kenji

This is Kenji Sawada’s 25th single, released on September 10, 1978.
It’s a song that vividly evokes a winter night cityscape in the cold rain.
When choosing songs that are easy for men to sing—the theme of this article—you can’t leave out tracks from the ’70s to ’80s with their simple, straightforward melodies! Although this song is a slow ballad, the vocal range it uses isn’t very wide, so I think it’s easy to sing even for those who aren’t confident in their range.
Just be careful: if the vocal rhythm leans too far ahead of the beat, it can ruin the song.
