When it comes to March events, there are many with a cute image, like Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day) and White Day.

Using lots of soft colors like pink and white in your crafts can put you in a gentle mood.

It’s the season when spring flowers begin to bloom, so let’s create a bright, festive atmosphere through crafting!

There are plenty of ideas you can use in senior day services and other elder care facilities, so please use them as a reference when making crafts together.

[For Seniors] Come, Spring! Recommended March Craft Ideas for Day Service (61–70)

three-dimensional camellia

[Easy] How to Make Camellias ✨ No Glue Needed ✨ [Tissue Paper] Perfect for Wall Decorations and New Year’s Decorations 💕 DIY How to Make Paper Camellia. Papercraft. Paper Flower.
three-dimensional camellia

This is a three-dimensional camellia you can easily make with tissue paper.

The steps are simple, making it perfect for hand training in recreational activities or occupational therapy at senior facilities.

First, prepare one yellow sheet and four red sheets of tissue paper.

Place the yellow sheet on top, fold it in half, then in half again, and once more (a total of three folds).

Open it once, then accordion-fold it so the creases alternate like a zigzag.

After folding it all, staple the center and round both ends of the paper with scissors.

With the yellow side on top, start lifting the layers of tissue paper beginning with the yellow.

Once all layers are fluffed up, trim any excess yellow paper, and it’s done.

Unlike real camellias, it won’t drop its flowers, so you can enjoy it as a decoration for a long time.

Give it a try!

Plum Blossoms and Nightingales

[Easy Craft] [100-yen Store DIY] Plum Blossoms and Bush Warbler [Spring Craft] #diy #easycraft #daiso #dayservice #recreation #elderly #craft #kawaii #kids
Plum Blossoms and Nightingales

Let’s make a hanging decoration of plum blossoms and bush warblers to brighten up your room in an instant! Thread pipe cleaners through short pieces of paper straw to form a pentagonal frame.

Cut a plain sheet of origami into a neat circle and layer it with a slightly irregular circle torn by hand from patterned origami.

Add the tail, beak, and eyes, and your bush warbler is complete.

For the eyes, feel free to get creative by using beads or stickers, or by drawing them with a pen.

Make small plum blossoms and decorate the frame to finish.

March is still quite chilly, but this craft is sure to warm your heart.

Hina Matsuri hanging decorations

[No-Sew] Cut, paste, and create! Easy hanging decoration frame made with felt and chirimen (crepe) / Hina Matsuri DIY / DIY: How to make a felt hanging wall decoration.
Hina Matsuri hanging decorations

As Hinamatsuri approaches, it seems many senior and welfare facilities also decorate their interiors.

Rooms are likely wrapped in pastel colors centered on pink and other festive hues.

Here, we introduce a craft that further enhances the Hinamatsuri atmosphere: a hanging ornament made with felt and chirimen crepe fabric.

While hanging ornaments are often displayed on walls or windows, this one will be suspended within an A3-size photo frame.

Therefore, the individual pieces are small.

Creating tiny peach blossoms, battledores, and hishi-mochi out of felt and chirimen is sure to captivate the seniors making them.

The adorable finished pieces will likely give them a satisfying sense of accomplishment.

Cherry blossom mobile

Cherry blossom mobile

Here’s a cherry blossom mobile made from recycled materials.

The material we’ll use is toilet paper rolls.

First, flatten a roll so it forms the shape of a cherry blossom petal, then cut it into strips about 5 millimeters wide.

Next, attach tissue paper to the petal-shaped frames made from the toilet paper roll.

Trim the excess tissue paper around the frame to create clean, pretty petals.

Combine five petals to make a cherry blossom, or simply attach strings to individual petals and hang them to finish.

Through this craft activity, even older adults can feel the arrival of spring.

Tulips and windmills

Tulips are one of the flowers that are at their best in spring.

And when it comes to tulips, the Netherlands is famous, isn’t it? The Netherlands is one of the world’s leading tulip producers.

Many older adults have probably seen a landscape with tulips and windmills at least once.

Seeing wall decorations featuring tulips and windmills might help some seniors feel the season as well.

Even during the crafting process, conversations full of springtime memories are likely to blossom.

Looking at tulips blooming in a variety of colors can soothe the heart and bring a gentle feeling.

yaezakura (double-flowered cherry blossoms)

yaezakura (double-flowered cherry blossoms)

Let’s make gentle, fluffy double-flowered cherry blossom (yaezakura) items perfect for the spring season in March.

The bright cherry-pink blossoms are easy to make, so they’re great as a recreational activity at facilities like senior day services.

Although it involves fine handiwork, even a somewhat rough approach won’t affect the finished look.

Because multiple layers of tissue paper are stacked, the flowers have nice volume and a beautiful gradient.

You can make many and display them together, scatter them around the room, or use them in various ways.

Brighten up your space with handmade yaezakura that bring a touch of spring.

Daruma-style Hina dolls

Let me introduce cute, round daruma-style Hina dolls.

Because you use your whole palm, they’re great for finger and hand rehabilitation in places like senior care facilities.

First, make two balls of crumpled newspaper for the base.

Be careful—they can easily become bumpy.

Cut origami paper to the size of the face and glue it on.

Make the hair the same way, adjusting the position as you attach it.

Next is the kimono.

Cut chiyogami into two pieces and glue them onto the newspaper at a diagonal.

Using spring-like colors will make it look bright and festive.

For the collar, use origami in a vivid color to create contrast and a neat finish.

Draw the facial features with a pen to complete the body.

Make a fan, a scepter (shaku), and head ornaments from chiyogami or origami and glue them on to finish.

Try making your very own Hina dolls!
