Hanging ornaments of flowers and temari balls

February–March: Origami plum and peach blossoms and temari ball wall-hanging decorations (with audio commentary) — How to make origami plum and peach blossoms and ball ornaments
Hanging ornaments of flowers and temari balls

These are hanging decorations of plum blossoms and temari balls that will make you look forward to spring.

Prepare both solid-color and patterned origami for the plum blossoms.

Use a round plate or a compass to draw circles on the origami, then cut them out.

Combine the solid and patterned pieces to form petal shapes, and staple five petals together.

Stapling where the petals meet will give a neat finish.

Attach the center piece and it’s done.

Using two colors of origami for the temari balls makes them colorful and cute.

Double-sided origami works well, too! Once the parts are complete, attach them to a thread and you’re finished.

Enjoy your crafting time with this project!

These wobbling dolls are adorable okiagari-koboshi-style Hina dolls.

You can easily make the wobbling mechanism using paper cups.

Create the Emperor and Empress with construction paper or origami, then attach them to paper cups cut to the right size, and you’re done.

Because they sway, these Hina dolls seem like something older adults could enjoy even after making them.

They also look cute displayed on a table or shelf.

Templates for the Emperor and Empress are available online, so using those can make the process easy and casual.

three-dimensional camellia

[Easy] How to Make Camellias ✨ No Glue Needed ✨ [Tissue Paper] Perfect for Wall Decorations and New Year’s Decorations 💕 DIY How to Make Paper Camellia. Papercraft. Paper Flower.
three-dimensional camellia

This is a three-dimensional camellia you can easily make with tissue paper.

The steps are simple, making it perfect for hand training in recreational activities or occupational therapy at senior facilities.

First, prepare one yellow sheet and four red sheets of tissue paper.

Place the yellow sheet on top, fold it in half, then in half again, and once more (a total of three folds).

Open it once, then accordion-fold it so the creases alternate like a zigzag.

After folding it all, staple the center and round both ends of the paper with scissors.

With the yellow side on top, start lifting the layers of tissue paper beginning with the yellow.

Once all layers are fluffed up, trim any excess yellow paper, and it’s done.

Unlike real camellias, it won’t drop its flowers, so you can enjoy it as a decoration for a long time.

Give it a try!

When you see dandelions in bloom, you can’t help but think, “Spring has come,” right? Older adults may also feel the arrival of spring.

In spring, you might make dandelion crafts as part of recreation activities.

It’s also a great idea to make dandelion fluff and display it together with the dandelion pieces.

If you use them as a wall decoration, they’ll create a lovely atmosphere indoors.

Seeing the displayed dandelions and fluff may bring back memories for some seniors—of their childhood or moments with family.

Be sure to enjoy a pleasant time together while sharing those memories.

Simple bouquet

Simple bouquet

This origami piece stands out for its three-dimensional look, achieved by adding creative touches to the petal expression.

By leaving a border and making vertical slits in the paper, then curling them to create petals that clearly convey the feel of the seasonal event, a softly spreading flower shape emerges.

The work isn’t overly intricate, but the degree of opening changes depending on how you curl the strips, so it’s important to proceed with the final result in mind.

Bundling several together adds volume and creates a bouquet-like form.

Varying the color combinations changes the impression, allowing you to enjoy arrangements tailored to where you’ll display them.

The miniature red-and-white plum wreath is an origami piece characterized by a cohesive finish that makes the most of color contrast.

Placing the two colors—red and white—side by side makes the ring shape stand out clearly, conveying both elegance and calm.

While each individual flower is simple, arranging them into a circle gives the piece a refined presence.

The neatly balanced layout is reassuring to look at and lends a crisp, traditional Japanese atmosphere to the space where it’s displayed.

Despite its modest size, it effectively conveys the seasonal spirit of festive occasions.

A hanging ornament of yo-yo quilt made from fabric scraps

Let’s make a hanging decoration with a calm, soothing feel using fabric with traditional Japanese patterns.

You can make this with fabric scraps, so prepare plenty of your favorite prints.

After making a paper pattern and cutting the fabric, fold it in half with the right sides together and sew the edges.

Once you have a loop, lightly fold in each end to crease them.

Fold it in half and sew all the way around with large stitches, then pull the thread to form a round shape.

Gently shape it, then thread a cord through along with small fabric balls stuffed with cotton.

Make five of these sets to complete a vibrant yo-yo quilt hanging decoration.
