Types of music genres

The famous saying goes, “There are only two kinds of music: good and bad.” That said, it’s often easier to start listening when music is categorized by genre.

Use this as a reference to help you discover new ‘good music.’

Popular Italian songs written from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, as well as Italian pop songs, are called canzone.

Like chanson, canzone is a word that means “song” in Italian.

For that reason, it’s a genre name used only in Japan.

It’s one of the rock subgenres that heavily incorporates Southern U.S.

blues, R&B, and country! Another hallmark is that many of the groups actually come from the American South, and there are lots of songs that pay tribute to their hometowns.

It’s a music genre famous at Brazil’s Carnival and a traditional style dating back to the late 19th century! While the image is often of people dancing in flashy outfits, in fact there are many styles within samba, and at its core samba is dance music in 2/4 time.
