Types of music genres
The famous saying goes, “There are only two kinds of music: good and bad.” That said, it’s often easier to start listening when music is categorized by genre.

Types of music genres (101–110)
Urban Blues
It used to be called modern blues for a while, but at some point people started calling it urban blues! Influenced by jazz, it’s a very easy-listening, calm kind of blues for adults—very approachable!
Canzone
Popular Italian songs written from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, as well as Italian pop songs, are called canzone.
Like chanson, canzone is a word that means “song” in Italian.
For that reason, it’s a genre name used only in Japan.
garage rock
It’s a subgenre of rock that emerged around the mid-1960s! The name comes from the fact that many bands practiced in garages.
It’s a style that led into early punk and psychedelic rock, characterized by impulsive, raw sounds.
Southern rock
It’s one of the rock subgenres that heavily incorporates Southern U.S.
blues, R&B, and country! Another hallmark is that many of the groups actually come from the American South, and there are lots of songs that pay tribute to their hometowns.
Samba
It’s a music genre famous at Brazil’s Carnival and a traditional style dating back to the late 19th century! While the image is often of people dancing in flashy outfits, in fact there are many styles within samba, and at its core samba is dance music in 2/4 time.
