[For 4-Year-Olds] Recommended in November! Autumn-Themed Craft Activities

As the number of chilly days increases, November ushers in the height of autumn.

Many teachers may be thinking, “I want children to fully experience the charms of autumn!”

So this time, we’re introducing creative project ideas for 4-year-olds that are perfect for November.

Packed with ideas that incorporate a variety of autumn-themed motifs—natural materials like acorns and fallen leaves, delicious seasonal foods, and adorable creatures such as bagworms and squirrels—these projects help children feel the essence of autumn.

We also share project ideas related to Shichi-Go-San, so be sure to use them as a reference.

Because we’re introducing ideas that nurture children’s flexible imaginations through making things, we use the term “seisaku” (creative projects) in the main text.

Make it with toilet paper! Here’s an idea for a dragonfly that can fly.

You’ll need two toilet paper rolls, origami paper, tape, craft glue, scissors, a rubber band, white drawing paper, and crayons.

First, wrap origami paper around one toilet paper roll and cut a slit where you’ll hook on the rubber band.

Next, use the white paper to make the wings and eyes, and stick them on.

Finally, crumple the other toilet paper roll into a smaller ball and decorate it with origami paper to finish.

Kids are sure to be delighted with the result.

Bagworm Kendama

[Daycare/Kindergarten] Autumn Craft 🍁 Paper Cup Bagworm Kendama [Target Age & Notes]
Bagworm Kendama

Turn a kendama into an autumn insect! Here’s an idea for a bagworm-themed kendama.

What you’ll need: a paper cup, string, tape, glue, warm-colored construction paper, white construction paper, pens, and old paper such as newspaper.

First, use the warm-colored paper to make fallen leaves.

It’s also nice to prepare real leaves and have the children draw the veins.

Next, glue the paper leaves onto the paper cup.

Finally, crumple the old paper, tie it to the string, and tape the other end of the string firmly to the bottom of the paper cup to finish.

Since the string can come off easily, the key is to secure it well with tape!

Stained glass of an apple

[Childcare] The translucent look is cute! Apple stained glass [Autumn craft]
Stained glass of an apple

Cute and translucent! Let me introduce an apple stained-glass craft.

You will need black construction paper, colored cellophane, scissors, laminating sheets, and glue.

First, cut the black construction paper into an apple shape and cut out the inside.

Next, attach the cut-out apple frame to a laminating sheet.

Finally, cut and paste pieces of colored cellophane, then laminate it to finish.

Children’s hearts will dance at creating their own special piece.

Let’s make an autumn delicacy with aluminum foil! Here’s an idea for making a Pacific saury (sanma) out of aluminum foil.

You’ll need newspaper, aluminum foil, colored permanent markers, and round stickers.

First, crumple the newspaper into the shape of a sanma and refine the shape with aluminum foil.

Next, color the foil with the colored permanent markers.

Finally, attach round stickers for the eyes, and you’re done! When displaying it in a room, arranging it as if it’s being grilled on a shichirin (charcoal grill) will make the piece stand out even more.

Autumn fruits with balloon stamps

Let’s use balloons like stamps to make delicious autumn fruits! On white drawing paper, dab on colors by bouncing a paint-covered balloon.

Once the paint dries, cut the paper into your favorite fruit shapes to match the paint colors.

Prepare stems and leaves on separate paper, then combine them with the fruit shapes to finish! The stamping step seems like something 4-year-olds will enjoy.

For the cutting step, please supervise closely to ensure safety.
