[For 4-Year-Olds] Recommended in November! Autumn-Themed Craft Activities
Last updated:

As the number of chilly days increases, November ushers in the height of autumn.

Many teachers may be thinking, “I want children to fully experience the charms of autumn!”

So this time, we’re introducing creative project ideas for 4-year-olds that are perfect for November.

Packed with ideas that incorporate a variety of autumn-themed motifs—natural materials like acorns and fallen leaves, delicious seasonal foods, and adorable creatures such as bagworms and squirrels—these projects help children feel the essence of autumn.

We also share project ideas related to Shichi-Go-San, so be sure to use them as a reference.

Because we’re introducing ideas that nurture children’s flexible imaginations through making things, we use the term “seisaku” (creative projects) in the main text.

Make it with gashapon capsules! Here’s a cute idea for acorn maracas.

You’ll need empty gashapon capsules, acorns, coffee beans, jute twine, double-sided tape, and scissors.

First, stick double-sided tape on one half of an empty capsule and wrap it with jute twine.

Next, put acorns inside the capsule.

Finally, close the capsule and you’re done! If you use coffee beans or soybeans as the filling, you can enjoy different sounds—highly recommended!

Wobbling bagworm

[Autumn Craft] Easy Wobbly Bagworm Made with a Paper Cup and Yarn [Ashitaba Channel]
Wobbling bagworm

Make it with a paper cup! Here’s an idea for a wobbly bagworm craft.

You’ll need: a paper cup, yarn, a brown envelope, chenille stems (pipe cleaners), newspaper, colored construction or tissue paper, a hole punch, glue, and scissors.

First, punch two holes in the paper cup and wrap yarn around the cup.

Next, thread a chenille stem through the holes to make a handle.

Crumple the brown envelope into a ball and place it inside the cup, then glue on the eyes and mouth pieces.

Finally, attach some fall leaves made from colored paper—and you’re done! Try hanging it on a doorknob or hook for decoration.

hedgehog

[Autumn Craft] With templates! Let’s make three kinds of hedgehogs!
hedgehog

Hedgehogs with prickly, pointy spines are perfect for autumn crafts! Cut out the hedgehog’s body and a basic mountain shape for the spines from construction paper.

Add patterns to the spine area however you like.

For example, wrap yarn so it hooks onto the spines, or stick on small pieces of cut yarn or randomly arranged origami paper.

For the eyes and nose, draw them in with crayons or add round stickers.

Try different methods to match the children’s interests and have them give it a go!

stylish tree

Perfect for the art-filled autumn season! Here’s an artistic and stylish tree-making craft idea.

It’s an activity that draws out children’s free creativity, so why not try it at your daycare or kindergarten? Cut construction paper into leaf shapes and let the children freely add color with crayons or paint.

Next, tear and glue craft paper (or similar) into branch and trunk shapes.

Finish by arranging the colored leaves you made earlier.

You can also add a stamping activity using various recycled materials—kids will love it.
