[For 4-Year-Olds] Recommended in November! Autumn-Themed Craft Activities
As the number of chilly days increases, November ushers in the height of autumn.
Many teachers may be thinking, “I want children to fully experience the charms of autumn!”
So this time, we’re introducing creative project ideas for 4-year-olds that are perfect for November.
Packed with ideas that incorporate a variety of autumn-themed motifs—natural materials like acorns and fallen leaves, delicious seasonal foods, and adorable creatures such as bagworms and squirrels—these projects help children feel the essence of autumn.
We also share project ideas related to Shichi-Go-San, so be sure to use them as a reference.
Because we’re introducing ideas that nurture children’s flexible imaginations through making things, we use the term “seisaku” (creative projects) in the main text.

acorn maracas
https://www.tiktok.com/@sayacky_be.child/video/7402208000066227474Make it with gashapon capsules! Here’s a cute idea for acorn maracas.
You’ll need empty gashapon capsules, acorns, coffee beans, jute twine, double-sided tape, and scissors.
First, stick double-sided tape on one half of an empty capsule and wrap it with jute twine.
Next, put acorns inside the capsule.
Finally, close the capsule and you’re done! If you use coffee beans or soybeans as the filling, you can enjoy different sounds—highly recommended!
Wobbling bagworm

Make it with a paper cup! Here’s an idea for a wobbly bagworm craft.
You’ll need: a paper cup, yarn, a brown envelope, chenille stems (pipe cleaners), newspaper, colored construction or tissue paper, a hole punch, glue, and scissors.
First, punch two holes in the paper cup and wrap yarn around the cup.
Next, thread a chenille stem through the holes to make a handle.
Crumple the brown envelope into a ball and place it inside the cup, then glue on the eyes and mouth pieces.
Finally, attach some fall leaves made from colored paper—and you’re done! Try hanging it on a doorknob or hook for decoration.
hedgehog

Hedgehogs with prickly, pointy spines are perfect for autumn crafts! Cut out the hedgehog’s body and a basic mountain shape for the spines from construction paper.
Add patterns to the spine area however you like.
For example, wrap yarn so it hooks onto the spines, or stick on small pieces of cut yarn or randomly arranged origami paper.
For the eyes and nose, draw them in with crayons or add round stickers.
Try different methods to match the children’s interests and have them give it a go!
stylish tree

It’s an activity that draws out children’s free creativity, so why not try it at your daycare or kindergarten? Cut construction paper into leaf shapes and let the children freely add color with crayons or paint.
Next, tear and glue craft paper (or similar) into branch and trunk shapes.
Finish by arranging the colored leaves you made earlier.
You can also add a stamping activity using various recycled materials—kids will love it.
Bleeding leaf art with coffee filters
https://www.tiktok.com/@hoiku.labo/video/7291190947700870402Savor a warm, cozy vibe! Here’s a leaf-themed bleeding art project using coffee filters.
Gather a coffee filter, water-based markers, a spray bottle, water, and scissors.
First, draw freely on the coffee filter with the water-based markers.
Next, spray water onto the coffee filter with the spray bottle.
Finally, once the filter is dry, cut it into the shape of a leaf—and you’re done! Instead of using a single color, try 2–3 colors to enjoy the way they blend.
Give it a try!
Acorn bag
https://www.tiktok.com/@sayacky_be.child/video/7405174988191386887Let’s head out with a bag! Here’s an idea for making an acorn bag using a plastic cup.
You’ll need a lidded plastic cup, ribbon, clear tape, stickers, scissors, and a stapler.
First, cut a cross-shaped slit in the lid.
Next, make the ribbon into a loop and attach it to the plastic cup.
Finally, decorate with your favorite stickers and you’re done! A key tip for the cross-shaped slit in the lid is to round the cuts.
Give it a try!
Autumn Photo Frame
https://www.tiktok.com/@hoiku_no_omamori/video/7421788603510033682Make it with doilies! Here’s an introduction to an autumn photo frame.
What you’ll need: paper doilies, paint, brushes, scissors, cardboard, yarn, and craft glue.
How to make it: Spread paint on the paper doilies and cut them into leaf shapes.
Next, cut the cardboard into a frame shape and wrap it with yarn in the color you like.
Attach the leaf-shaped doilies with craft glue, and you’re done! Try placing a message card or a favorite photo inside the frame and display it.
The handmade touch gives it a warm, cozy feel!
A dragonfly flying in the sky
https://www.tiktok.com/@chooobo2/video/7397001550553550097Make it with toilet paper! Here’s an idea for a dragonfly that can fly.
You’ll need two toilet paper rolls, origami paper, tape, craft glue, scissors, a rubber band, white drawing paper, and crayons.
First, wrap origami paper around one toilet paper roll and cut a slit where you’ll hook on the rubber band.
Next, use the white paper to make the wings and eyes, and stick them on.
Finally, crumple the other toilet paper roll into a smaller ball and decorate it with origami paper to finish.
Kids are sure to be delighted with the result.
Give it a try!
Bagworm Kendama

Turn a kendama into an autumn insect! Here’s an idea for a bagworm-themed kendama.
What you’ll need: a paper cup, string, tape, glue, warm-colored construction paper, white construction paper, pens, and old paper such as newspaper.
First, use the warm-colored paper to make fallen leaves.
It’s also nice to prepare real leaves and have the children draw the veins.
Next, glue the paper leaves onto the paper cup.
Finally, crumple the old paper, tie it to the string, and tape the other end of the string firmly to the bottom of the paper cup to finish.
Since the string can come off easily, the key is to secure it well with tape!
Stained glass of an apple

Cute and translucent! Let me introduce an apple stained-glass craft.
You will need black construction paper, colored cellophane, scissors, laminating sheets, and glue.
First, cut the black construction paper into an apple shape and cut out the inside.
Next, attach the cut-out apple frame to a laminating sheet.
Finally, cut and paste pieces of colored cellophane, then laminate it to finish.
Children’s hearts will dance at creating their own special piece.
Give it a try!
