[Childcare] Fun to Make! Recommended Craft Ideas for Spring

In spring, with new admissions and moving up to the next class, you can see children in all sorts of states—excited, nervous, and everything in between.

Many teachers are probably hoping that the children will come to enjoy their days at the preschool/kindergarten.

So this time, we’re sharing craft ideas perfect for spring.

We’ve gathered plenty of motifs that evoke the season—like cherry blossoms, tulips, and ladybugs—as well as ideas you can use for events such as Easter and Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day).

Decorate various areas to wrap your room in a spring atmosphere, and the children are sure to feel cozy and smile!

Give them a try.

Note: Since the things the children make are treated as “artworks,” we refer to them as “seisaku (制作)” in the text.

A mimosa bouquet made from handprints

@pi_chan.sensei__hoiku

Here’s what we’re sharing this time: “Mimosa spring flowers made by crumpling tissue paper on a handprint!” Spring flowers are full of cuteness, aren’t they? Use your fingertips to crumple small pieces of tissue paper, sprinkle them on, and your mimosa is complete. It’s easy and adorable to make at home or in preschool, so I’d be happy if you try copying it and making one too! 😊#March production#April ProductionNursery teacher / Childcare worker#Nursery School Craft#SpringCraftsSpring Craft Mosaic Bouquet

♬ Memories – J.Fla

Let me share an idea for a mimosa bouquet made with children’s adorable handprints.

You’ll need: a sheet of construction paper for the base, masking tape or patterned origami paper, paper doilies, light green construction paper, yellow tissue paper, glue or double-sided tape, pink tissue paper, and ribbon.

Children grow up in the blink of an eye, don’t they? How about turning their cute, one-of-a-kind handprints into a craft while you can? Take their handprints on the construction paper, then stick on bits of torn, crumpled tissue paper.

The step where you roll the tissue into little balls seems like it would be lots of fun!

Origami Tulip

In spring, we often make flowers and spring-themed motifs with origami.

How about folding a tulip—known for its cute, plump blossoms in spring—out of origami paper? There are many ways to fold one, but an easy method I recommend is: first fold the paper into a triangle, then fold it in half again into a smaller triangle, open it once, fold both sides inward symmetrically, and finally tuck in the three corners—done.

Just like in the children’s song “Tulips,” try making lots in red, white, and yellow for a colorful display!

Let’s make use of familiar materials! I’ll show you an idea for creating cherry blossoms using a newspaper stamp.

You’ll need drawing paper, crayons, newspaper, paint, and a paper plate.

First, use crayons to draw the cherry tree trunk on the drawing paper.

Next, put some paint on the paper plate.

A single color looks nice, but I recommend using two colors so you can enjoy the way they blend.

Finally, pick up some paint with a crumpled piece of newspaper and dab it onto the paper—stamp, stamp—and you’ll have a tree full of cherry blossoms!

Spring Stroll Bag

Introducing a handmade walk bag for storing the treasures you find on your strolls.

Prepare a zippered storage bag, round stickers and washi tape, raffia tape (suzuran tape), felt-tip pens, and cloth duct tape.

Stick a strip of duct tape with the child’s name on the front of the storage bag in a visible spot.

Decorate the surface of the bag freely with round stickers and washi tape.

Reinforce the upper left and right edges of the bag by sandwiching them with duct tape, then use a hole punch to make holes.

Braid the raffia tape to a length that fits over the children’s shoulders, thread it through the holes in the bag, and you’re done.

Spring hanging scroll

We’ll introduce how to make a spring hanging scroll that brightens up your room with a spring-like touch.

Prepare branches, construction paper, tissue paper, tapioca straws, glue, and scissors.

After choosing the color of the construction paper for the base of the hanging scroll, glue a branch onto white construction paper to set the center of the cherry tree.

Glue tissue paper onto circles cut from construction paper, then attach them around the branch.

By using pink for the cherry blossoms and green for the leaves as they start to appear, you can express the changing of the seasons.

Glue tapioca straws to the top and bottom of the hanging scroll, thread a string through, and it’s complete! It’s also great for spring wall displays.

Let’s paint spring with fluffy paints.

@rima_asobi♬ A cute pop and bouncy song(1526882) – sanusagi

Introducing fluffy paint for drawing springtime art that makes you want to touch the puffy parts.

Prepare shaving foam, liquid laundry glue, paint, plastic cups, plastic spoons, and drawing paper.

Sketch your picture on the paper beforehand.

In a plastic cup, combine shaving foam and liquid glue in a 1:1 ratio and mix.

Add paint to color it, then use a plastic spoon to place the foamy paint onto your sketched drawing.

When it dries, you’ll have a cute, puffy spring picture! Once dry, you can touch it, so enjoy the fun texture—give this charming and magical craft a try!

Giant cherry-blossom wall

@inokuchirunbini

This is Iguchi Lumbini Kindergarten. The oldest class made a cherry blossom tree. It was so much fun! The cherry blossoms were in full bloom—and so were the smiles! The principal joined in too, which made it even more exciting. Let’s create with our whole bodies! I’d like to introduce a giant cherry blossom wall that everyone can make together.

What you’ll need: large sheets of drawing paper taped together to match your wall size, brown construction paper, paints, paper cups, brushes, and pre-cut pink paper.

It’s a wonderful idea that sparks children’s creativity.

Painting on drawing paper that’s many times bigger than their own bodies is sure to be exciting! It’s also fun to use thinly shredded pink paper to represent cherry blossom petals.

You can just picture the children’s smiles as they joyfully toss the confetti around! Adjust the size of the paper to fit your classroom or room dimensions.
