Origami perfect for summer. Fun and easy for kids to make!
Summer is full of fun events like swimming at the beach or pool and fireworks festivals! How about expressing that summer with origami? Here, we’ll introduce origami that’s perfect for the season.
There are lots of designs, like cool ice cream, lanterns from summer festivals, and seasonal flowers and insects.
All of them are easy to make and can be completed in a short time, so they’re great even after water play.
Fold a variety, decorate your room, or enjoy a pretend festival with friends.

Munch-munch fish
https://www.tiktok.com/@sachimama_asobi/video/7261469033634090258The opening and closing mouth is so cute! Let me introduce a fun idea for a chompy little fish.
Fish often appear on the dining table, but they also show up a lot in anime, picture books, fingerplay, and songs.
This time, let’s make an adorable fish with a mouth that opens and closes using origami! You’ll need origami paper, round stickers, a permanent marker, and so on.
Solid-color origami looks lovely, but using your favorite patterns or holographic origami will give your fish extra personality.
Fishing made with origami

Let’s make and play! Here are some ideas for a fishing game made with origami.
When you think of summer, many people probably imagine goldfish scooping at summer festivals, right? On scorching days when it’s hard to go outside, how about enjoying a pretend fishing game indoors? You’ll need origami paper, round stickers, straws, a pen, cellophane tape, and scissors.
When making the fish, the key is to cut the tail into a heart shape! It also sounds fun to freely decorate the fish you make out of origami.

Star shape with origami

Speaking of Tanabata, you think of the twinkling stars shining in the night sky.
With this origami, you create star shapes by making creases in order and folding along them.
If you cut diagonally with scissors, you can make two types of stars from a single sheet of origami.
If you connect the stars with glue to resemble the Milky Way, they might sparkle beautifully.
It’s also good practice for using glue and scissors, making it a recommended craft for children around preschool age.
It would also be nice to explain the origin of Tanabata with a picture-story show or similar.
Easy cicada
https://www.tiktok.com/@sachimama_asobi/video/7256797154470006017Here’s how to make a cicada—the quintessential summer creature—that almost sounds like it might start chirping.
When folding the wings, tilt your folds slightly so they angle diagonally.
At the end, when bending the left and right sides, make diagonal folds while keeping a good balance between the cicada’s body and its wings.
Finish by drawing the face with round stickers and a felt-tip pen! Cicadas made with checkered origami paper are adorable, too.
It’s also fun to create a big tree on the wall and have the children stick on the cicadas they made.
Enjoy the activity while feeling the season!
Mr./Ms. Crab
https://www.tiktok.com/@sachimama_asobi/video/7263050492954053895Let’s make a crab that lives in the sea or rivers.
Prepare origami paper, round stickers, and felt-tip pens.
Crease the origami paper, open it while puffing up the center to form the crab’s body, and fold the claws, pressing the folds as you go.
Finally, stick on the eyes and you’re done.
Using patterned origami paper lets you enjoy making different kinds of crabs.
Give your finished crab a name and have fun creating it!
Summer Seashells
https://www.tiktok.com/@hoiku.labo/video/7254819680756468993Let’s make a seashell out of origami that captures the feeling of summer.
Fold the origami paper into a triangle twice, then unfold it once.
Fold the left and right corners in to meet the center line.
Fold those corners back outward, then fold the creases so they align with the center line.
Next, tuck the left and right corners up toward the center line so they go underneath the small triangle, and fold the tip of the small triangle slightly inward.
Finally, fold the top corner down to shape it like a shell, and you’re done.
Add patterns to make it cute!
Cute morning glory

Let’s make colorful and cute morning glories out of origami that bloom cheerfully under the summer sun.
First, fold the origami paper in half into a square twice, then unfold it.
Next, fold all four corners toward the center, flip it over, and slightly fold in the four corners.
Flip it over again, and for each loose corner, make two diagonal folds so it forms a peak; after doing this for all four corners, open the paper.
Finally, turn the paper over, and fold the four corners you just peaked toward the center along the creases, and you’re done.
Try making lots in different colors and decorating with them!
