Wonderful independent research

Recommended for elementary school students! Science fair topics & craft ideas

Speaking of summer vacation, choosing a topic for the independent research project can often be tough.

Science experiments and crafts are both fun! If your child is good at crafts, we recommend crafts because they can enjoy the process as they go.

When they get absorbed in it, they might even finish in just a few days.

Here, we’ll introduce a variety of ideas for independent research and crafts! If you’re struggling to pick a theme, please use these as a reference.

To create fun summer memories, make a one-of-a-kind project of your own!

Let’s try programming

Let's try programming

Haven’t you noticed that the neighborhood cram school has quietly turned into a kids’ programming class? As AI technology advances, a future where we live alongside robots is truly approaching.

In simple terms, programming is a language for communicating with robots.

Among the options, Scratch is a language that even elementary school students can use to experience programming easily—and it’s free! With just simple operations, kids can create animations and even make games, letting their creativity shine.

Because they can learn programming in a game-like way, it’s a great recommendation for a summer vacation independent study project!

Pysanky Making

Pysanky Making

The decorated eggs used for Easter, the Christian holiday, are called “Easter eggs.” In Eastern European countries, people make a type called “pysanky,” which are decorated using a wax-resist dyeing technique with beeswax.

You’ll need a candle, beeswax, and a special pen called a “kistka.” If you present it together with an explanation of how wax-resist dyeing works, it makes for a high-level independent research project.

By the way, the contents of the egg are removed by making a small hole.

In conclusion

We introduced plenty of themes for independent summer vacation projects.

In addition to experiments, we also picked out lots of craft ideas—was there anything you felt like trying? There’s a wide variety: not just things to make, but projects that connect to science learning, items you can play with as toys, and pieces you can display as interior decor.
