RAG MusicBand
A wonderful Japanese music band

A special feature on WANIMA’s finest and most popular songs, shining with piercing exhilaration and meticulous craftsmanship!!

Here’s an introduction to some of the classic and popular songs by WANIMA, a three-piece rock band from Kumamoto that helped reignite the melodic hardcore (melodic punk) boom in the 2010s!

They’re a new-generation melodic hardcore band carrying on the wave from Hi-STANDARD, MONGOL800, and 10-FEET.

In addition to their musical strengths—catchy tracks that skillfully weave in reggae and ska elements, tight musicianship, and impressive vocal harmonies—their boundlessly cheerful personalities are also a huge part of their appeal.

By the way, it’s well known that “1106” is a song dedicated to bassist-vocalist KENTA’s grandfather, who was a fisherman.

KENTA himself is also said to be quite skilled at fishing, often dropping a line with whatever gear he has on hand during breaks between tours.

Now, enjoy!

A showcase of WANIMA’s standout and popular songs brimming with exhilarating freshness and polished craftsmanship!! (71–80)

CHEEKYWANIMA

It is included on their second album, Everybody!!, released in 2018.

The refreshing band sound and light rhythm feel very characteristic of WANIMA.

With plenty of call-and-response moments, I think it’s a song that creates a strong sense of unity at live shows.

Sorry Not SorryWANIMA

A powerful rock number that sings of parting with words full of soul.

Featured on the EP released in December 2024, it carries WANIMA’s signature, heartfelt message that resonates deeply.

It tells us to take off from where we are now and gives listeners a push forward.

And that electrifying guitar riff—what an incredible, powerful rock sound.

Let this song lift you up!

THANKSWANIMA

THANKSWANIMA

This song is stylish yet packed with a passionate message—one you might feel like listening to at the end of summer.

Created by WANIMA, it’s included on the album “Are You Coming?” released in November 2015.

The lyrics are notable for directly expressing gratitude, singing about the suffering and pain we experience in life, and the gratitude that awaits after overcoming them.

The sentiment that hearts remain connected even when apart resonates deeply with listeners.

How about listening to it while looking back on your summer memories, with a sense of gratitude for someone special?

Full-Power BoyWANIMA

This is a song by Sukima Switch released in 2005.

It has been used as an insert song in films and in commercials.

This popular track, which could be called a classic of pop music, is likely one you’ve heard at least once.

It’s a song that fires you up when you’re stuck in dull, dreamless days, and makes you feel like you want to change yourself.

As our daily lives evolve with a new start, we too should keep polishing ourselves.

Let’s welcome the new chapter with ambition.

WANIMA is a band that’s gained popularity with their lively melodies and lyrics.

For low-voice male singers, WANIMA’s songs may have flown under the radar.

It’s true that KENTA, WANIMA’s vocalist, doesn’t have a low voice.

However, it’s a different story when it comes to his shouts.

They’re not extremely low, but KENTA’s voice drops when he sings shouted parts.

Their track “Ranran Rhapsody” features KENTA’s shouts throughout.

Instead of whispering, try shouting while forcefully expelling a large breath—as if spitting the words out—and you’ll get a powerful shout like KENTA’s.

Give it a try.

Hanarete Itemo (Even When We’re Apart), included on the single Chopped Grill Chicken released in 20221, is a track well known among fans as the song that closed out WANIMA’s 2021 live tour.

True to WANIMA’s style and rich in message, it’s, as the title suggests, a perfect fit for farewell moments.

It might be nice to sing it for someone you’ll be separated from for various reasons—graduation, a job transfer, moving, and so on.

There aren’t many high notes; try powering through the song while keeping its brisk pace intact.

ElWANIMA

This is a song that can be interpreted either as a breakup song or a love song.

As for what “L” is, KENTA says, “I won’t say.” That, in turn, lets the imagination run wild and allows the song to become something different for each listener.

Like “Hey yo…,” it’s an emotional track.

In conclusion

We’ve introduced so many of WANIMA’s popular songs up to this point! Did you find the track you were looking for, or discover any new favorites? I think all of WANIMA’s songs are uplifting and packed with positive messages.

They’ve grown into a nationally beloved band.

It’s exciting to think about what masterpieces they’ll create next! Let’s keep loving WANIMA’s straightforward songs from here on out!
