RAG MusicBand
A wonderful Japanese music band

A special feature on WANIMA’s finest and most popular songs, shining with piercing exhilaration and meticulous craftsmanship!!

Here’s an introduction to some of the classic and popular songs by WANIMA, a three-piece rock band from Kumamoto that helped reignite the melodic hardcore (melodic punk) boom in the 2010s!

They’re a new-generation melodic hardcore band carrying on the wave from Hi-STANDARD, MONGOL800, and 10-FEET.

In addition to their musical strengths—catchy tracks that skillfully weave in reggae and ska elements, tight musicianship, and impressive vocal harmonies—their boundlessly cheerful personalities are also a huge part of their appeal.

By the way, it’s well known that “1106” is a song dedicated to bassist-vocalist KENTA’s grandfather, who was a fisherman.

KENTA himself is also said to be quite skilled at fishing, often dropping a line with whatever gear he has on hand during breaks between tours.

Now, enjoy!

This song that starts with “La-la la la la la” is one that makes you want to sing along.

The lyrics, which really tug at your heart, are incredibly striking.

It makes perfect sense that this track is the last one on the 1st full album “Are You Coming?”.

It has a sense of speed right from the intro.

The slightly complex lyrics also make you think about various things.

With WANIMA’s signature upbeat vibe, it lifts your spirits when you’re feeling down.

It’s a very popular song among fans and is performed frequently at live shows.

This song is incredibly striking for its wah-infused guitar phrases.

In an interview, KO-SHIN himself said, “Instead of using a phaser, I deliberately tried a wah and was amazed by its depth,” making it a key highlight of the track.

The thick punk sound, the increasingly dance-inducing groove, and the major shift in feel in the latter half are quintessential WANIMA.

Even when facing hardships, you can sense a firm willingness to confront them head-on.

Despite the lyrics featuring word choices characteristic of WANIMA, the up-tempo melody strikes a great balance, making it a cool track.

It’s a song that brings back memories of the end of summer.

I think everyone struggles and feels anxious sometimes.

This song gives you a push, so please give it a listen when you’re feeling that way.

Its positive message is very much WANIMA’s style, so I recommend it to anyone dealing with worries!

This is the song written and composed by Kazuo Zaitsu that WANIMA covered for the Car Sensor commercial.

It expresses feelings toward someone who has helped you and is a song full of warmth and character.

WANIMA’s characteristically straightforward delivery is really cool.

GongWANIMA

When it comes to performing tracks that lift your spirits and push you forward, no one tops WANIMA—the kings of positive songs.

Their track “GONG” serves as the theme song for One Piece Stampede, the theatrical film commemorating the 20th anniversary of the hugely popular anime One Piece.

It meshes perfectly with the world of One Piece and is quintessentially WANIMA, pulling you powerfully toward the light.
