RAG MusicBand
A wonderful Japanese music band

A special feature on WANIMA’s finest and most popular songs, shining with piercing exhilaration and meticulous craftsmanship!!

Here’s an introduction to some of the classic and popular songs by WANIMA, a three-piece rock band from Kumamoto that helped reignite the melodic hardcore (melodic punk) boom in the 2010s!

They’re a new-generation melodic hardcore band carrying on the wave from Hi-STANDARD, MONGOL800, and 10-FEET.

In addition to their musical strengths—catchy tracks that skillfully weave in reggae and ska elements, tight musicianship, and impressive vocal harmonies—their boundlessly cheerful personalities are also a huge part of their appeal.

By the way, it’s well known that “1106” is a song dedicated to bassist-vocalist KENTA’s grandfather, who was a fisherman.

KENTA himself is also said to be quite skilled at fishing, often dropping a line with whatever gear he has on hand during breaks between tours.

Now, enjoy!

Speaking of WANIMA, they’re best known for catchy, upbeat songs, but tracks with a slightly darker, cooler vibe like this one are also really appealing! By the way, this song was used in a Townwork commercial that drew attention for featuring Hitoshi Matsumoto, so many of you might find it familiar.

With a tropical drum phrase in the chorus and touches of ska sprinkled throughout, it’s a song that crosses over a variety of musical backgrounds.

It’s fine./Don’t worry about it./Just do it.WANIMA

It’s packed with words that are normally embarrassing to hear, but thanks to the poppy melody, you can sing it easily at karaoke or live shows.

That said, the lyrics are definitely for adults and not something you’d want kids to hear.

This song, which evokes the feeling of Tokyo at night, seems to be about Kabukicho.

In an interview, they also shared an episode about getting stopped for questioning by the police after walking around with a suspicious look to observe the flow of Kabukicho.

It’s packed with elements that feel very much like a WANIMA track.

This song that starts with “La-la la la la la” is one that makes you want to sing along.

The lyrics, which really tug at your heart, are incredibly striking.

It makes perfect sense that this track is the last one on the 1st full album “Are You Coming?”.

It’s included on their second album, “Everybody!!,” released in 2018.

The driving, fast-paced rhythm is quite striking.

Also, among WANIMA’s songs, it seems to be quite popular for its refreshing yet powerful vocals that really stick in your ears.

When you think of WANIMA, songs with melodic hardcore and reggae vibes come to mind, and this track perfectly fits that image.

The reggae-style offbeat guitar with its “cha-cha” feel and the melodic hardcore-style two-beat are striking.

The upbeat lyrics—“I’ll get my revenge someday!”—leave you feeling positive.

This is a song I’d like people who are working hard to listen to.

I really love it, and you can feel that WANIMA themselves have probably been encouraged by many people.

It’s especially recommended for those who are striving while being away from their families.
