A special feature on WANIMA’s finest and most popular songs, shining with piercing exhilaration and meticulous craftsmanship!!
Here’s an introduction to some of the classic and popular songs by WANIMA, a three-piece rock band from Kumamoto that helped reignite the melodic hardcore (melodic punk) boom in the 2010s!
They’re a new-generation melodic hardcore band carrying on the wave from Hi-STANDARD, MONGOL800, and 10-FEET.
In addition to their musical strengths—catchy tracks that skillfully weave in reggae and ska elements, tight musicianship, and impressive vocal harmonies—their boundlessly cheerful personalities are also a huge part of their appeal.
By the way, it’s well known that “1106” is a song dedicated to bassist-vocalist KENTA’s grandfather, who was a fisherman.
KENTA himself is also said to be quite skilled at fishing, often dropping a line with whatever gear he has on hand during breaks between tours.

A showcase of WANIMA’s iconic and popular songs shining with exhilarating freshness and meticulous care!! (1–10)
BOUNCEWANIMA

“BOUNCE” has a groove that feels like it draws on the charms of Latin music.
WANIMA’s commitment to Japanese lyrics shines in this track as well.
If you listen to it while taking a walk on a warm day, you’ll find yourself whistling before you know it.
It puts you in a cozy, sunny mood and gives you a boost of energy.
BIG UPWANIMA

“BIG UP,” which was included on WANIMA’s first mini-album “Can Not Behaved!!” (the same release that features “1106”).
This mini-album really propelled their popularity all at once, didn’t it? The track—part of the record that could be called their breakthrough—showcases their specialty: mature, grown-up lyrics.
At the same time, the song has dramatic dynamics, with the groove shifting intensely as it goes—a seriously cool track.
THANXWANIMA

This song is a track WANIMA has been performing since before their debut, and it’s one they’ve cherished.
It’s got driving energy and a cool sound, with lyrics that express gratitude in a way that’s so quintessentially WANIMA.
At live shows, it’s a staple that sends the crowd into a frenzy the moment the intro starts.
A special feature on WANIMA’s standout hits and fan favorites, shining with exhilarating freshness and meticulous craft!! (11–20)
1106WANIMA

This is a song sung by KENTA, the bass-vocalist from a port town in Kumamoto Prefecture, inspired by thoughts of his grandfather.
Filled with memories and affection for his grandpa, this track might be at the top of WANIMA’s “best songs” ranking.
It has a gentle vibe and beautiful harmonies, so I definitely recommend giving it a listen.
treasureWANIMA

Takaromono is a mid-tempo, laid-back track that offers a different flavor from WANIMA’s usual powerful sound.
With piano, strings, and other tones woven into the arrangement, it builds an emotional progression.
There’s even a sing-along section toward the end that will lift your spirits! It’s one of WANIMA’s hidden gems.
TRACEWANIMA

The music video for this song has a really grand, epic feel and it’s super cool.
It’s sung at the top of a mountain.
Among WANIMA’s songs, I think this one is quite popular.
It’s up-tempo, but the lyrics and melody also carry a bit of an emotional vibe.
GET DOWNWANIMA

WANIMA’s signature live song “GET DOWN.” As expected, WANIMA is known for their bright, high-speed sound.
The track wraps up in about two minutes, but the repeating chorus phrase is easy to remember, so you’ll be humming along in no time.
They often play this as the last song of their shows, so be sure to learn it and head out to a live gig.
