Here’s an introduction to some of the classic and popular songs by WANIMA, a three-piece rock band from Kumamoto that helped reignite the melodic hardcore (melodic punk) boom in the 2010s!

They’re a new-generation melodic hardcore band carrying on the wave from Hi-STANDARD, MONGOL800, and 10-FEET.

In addition to their musical strengths—catchy tracks that skillfully weave in reggae and ska elements, tight musicianship, and impressive vocal harmonies—their boundlessly cheerful personalities are also a huge part of their appeal.

By the way, it’s well known that “1106” is a song dedicated to bassist-vocalist KENTA’s grandfather, who was a fisherman.

KENTA himself is also said to be quite skilled at fishing, often dropping a line with whatever gear he has on hand during breaks between tours.

Now, enjoy!

In the music video for “Tomoni,” which used a large amount of water, their greatest charm—their fun-loving personalities—really shines through.

The positive lyrics characteristic of WANIMA, along with the bright, catchy, and fast-paced sound, make a strong impression.

It’s sure to get the crowd going at live shows, too.

At least this / Just this (one thing)WANIMA

WANIMA’s straightforward, unpretentious songs are all uplifting.

One was even featured as the CM song for the “McShake × Calpis Youth Collaboration” campaign.

WANIMA’s music truly embodies youth itself! It’s a track we want everyone who’s fighting their own battles to hear.

Among WANIMA’s relentlessly bright and positive songs, this one stands out for its wonderful lyrics and the encouraging message that gives you a push forward.

Their signature catchy melody line, the crisp and breezy guitar riffs, and the driving drum phrases are all striking, but those tightly synchronized break sections sprinkled throughout really make your heart race when you listen, don’t they?

This is a song I want people to listen to when they’re setting off somewhere, torn about a decision, or taking on a challenge after parting with someone important.

For those working hard far from home—WANIMA is a band that also left Kumamoto for Tokyo and keeps pushing forward.

I hope you’ll listen to it whenever you feel like you’re about to fall apart.

The song “AGAIN,” which was the theme for the drama Maison de Police, was written specifically for the show, but its lyrics hit home hard for all kinds of people.

The straightforward, powerful Japanese lyrics—so typical of WANIMA—really pierce you.

The music video was filmed in their hometown of Kumamoto, and it has a wonderfully relaxed, free-spirited vibe.

The ballad “Rindou” carries the message: stay weak and grow stronger.

While WANIMA is often associated with intense, upbeat songs, their ballads are actually fantastic too.

When you’re pursuing your goals straight on, there are inevitably times when you feel lonely.

Listening to this song in those moments will surely encourage you.

“Natsu no Dokoka e,” which was featured as the theme song for the Mitsuya Cider commercial, has an incredibly catchy, refreshing chorus that makes it a real pleasure to listen to! Many people probably felt that tight, moving sensation in their chest from the very first listen.

Also, the guitar solo that comes in right after the first chorus is a must-hear! As the title suggests, it’s the perfect song for summer and a track that feels quintessentially WANIMA.
