[Sports] Recreational Games Using a Ball [Play] (11–20)
Ball-toss game

It’s the familiar ‘tamaire’ game often seen at school sports days.
As you all know, the rules are simple: just toss as many balls into the basket as you can.
But it’s surprisingly deep—there are even national championships.
Skilled players use various techniques to land an incredible number of balls.
Give it a try and experience the depth of tamaire for yourself.
Spoon relay

A ball game using a kitchen ladle and a ping-pong ball called the “Ladle Relay.” You balance a ping-pong ball on a ladle and run; the team that reaches the goal the fastest wins.
It sounds easy, but running without dropping the lightweight ping-pong ball is actually pretty tricky! If you drop the ball along the way, just pick it up, go back to the spot where you dropped it, and start running again—no problem! When switching to the next runner, pass the ping-pong ball using the ladles without using your hands.
You could even draw pictures on the ping-pong balls or try balancing different items on the ladle for extra fun!
Beach ball game

Beach volleyball is a classic game to play at the ocean or the pool.
It’s a great ball game, too! Because beach balls are soft, even small children and older adults can play safely.
It’s perfectly fine to just rally casually as usual.
But if you want to play in a more competitive, sport-like format, set up a court the same size as a badminton doubles court and use a badminton net in the middle.
Play matches 4-on-4, best of three sets, first to 9 points per set.
You can practice a bit like you normally do, then try a match-style game!
Pudding drinking game with a plastic bottle

It’s a game where you place a plastic bottle on the tennis court and try to knock it down with your serve! As long as you can hit the ball with a racket, anyone can enjoy this as a recreational activity, so give it a try.
The most important thing in this game is control.
It looks easy but is actually quite tricky, so if it doesn’t fall, experienced tennis players might get a bit competitive (lol).
One bottle is fine, but it’ll be even more exciting if you set up multiple bottles and assign different point values depending on their positions!
kickbase

The rules are like baseball, but instead of hitting the ball with a bat, the batter kicks it—kickbase.
The pitcher rolls the ball, the batter kicks it with their foot, and then runs the bases like in baseball.
A fielder can get an out by catching a fly ball, stepping on a base while holding the ball, or hitting a runner with the ball.
Everyone except the batter throws the ball by hand.
Depending on the region, there are various rule variations, such as starting play from the batter without a pitcher, or prohibiting bunting as in baseball.
It’s a sport you can enjoy casually even if you don’t have baseball experience and find it hard to hit a ball with a bat.
futsal

Futsal is an all-weather sport as well, and it’s more flexible with venues than soccer, which makes it appealing.
However, there tends to be a big skill gap between experienced players and beginners, so if you add handicaps or set some original rules, I think everyone can have fun playing together.
Ball-collecting competition

A simple game with one rule: the team that dribbles and carries the most balls wins.
Even if there are one or two players with soccer experience, it’s surprisingly hard to do well, so don’t hesitate even if you’re a beginner—keep carrying those balls and aim for victory.
Carrying a ball with a holey newspaper
Here’s an idea for a relay game using a newspaper and a tennis ball.
The rules are very simple: two players work in perfect sync to reach the goal without dropping the tennis ball through the holes in the newspaper.
The rules are easy, but it’s surprisingly challenging even for adults—that’s part of the fun.
You can play it anywhere, indoors or outdoors.
First, pair up, spread out a sheet of newspaper, and place the ball on top.
Work together to carry it carefully without dropping it.
If you drop it along the way, pick it up immediately and restart from the same spot.
The team that reaches the goal first wins! It’s also a great activity to include in a sports day event.
Pass-Pass Tag

“Pass-Pass Tag” is a game that combines dodgeball and tag! Split into chasers and runners; the chasers catch opponents by tagging them with the ball.
There’s a rule that a chaser holding the ball can only take one step, so they naturally learn teamwork by passing among themselves.
Since you don’t throw the ball to hit others like in dodgeball, even kids who are afraid of the ball can join with confidence.
Adding a time limit makes the battle even more exciting!
Water ball

Among recent marine activities, the Water Ball is one you can enjoy at a reasonable price.
You move across the water with a strange sensation, and ideally, it’s something a man and a woman would get in and enjoy together.
Of course, it could still be fun even if it’s just guys going in together.
